Citizens United Launches New Anti-Clinton Ad Campaignto Air during “60 Minutes” Interview

Amidst the hype surrounding the release of former President Clinton’s new book, “My Life”, Citizens United sets the record straight by exposing the real legacy President Bill Clinton left for America.

The former President will be publicizing his new memoir during his first televised interview to CBS’ “60 Minutes” on Sunday, June 20, 2004.

The Citizens United ad, which was to debut during the interview, shows multiple images of terrorist attacks throughout Clinton’s presidency that he failed to respond to, including: the World Trade Center bombings in 1993, the Khobar Towers bombing in 1996 the dual embassy bombings in East Africa in 1998, and the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole in 2000.

President Clinton gutted defense and intelligence spending and was MIA for eight years while terrorists continuously attacked the United States. Consequently, President Bush inherited a decayed intelligence apparatus and a terrorist network, already living among Americans, that was planning the largest attack ever on U.S. soil.

Citizens United believes America needs a strong leader in the War on Terror, and President Bush has proved that his steadfast and principled leadership is crucial to defeat our enemies for this generation and generations to come.

Boy, I'm sure glad that the media will ignore this like they do the vast majority of conservative contentions < /sarcasm >

I can't wait to hear from Bill Press on this. I'm sure he will just love it.

Well intentioned, but will likely backfire. If you are going to go down that path, you should have at least clearly stated your accusation that the Clinton Admin neglected and weakened our intelligence/defense agencies, promoted based on politics rather than competence, etc. Otherwise it just looks like an overly emotional MoveOn-style cheap shot, no different than claiming that 3000 died on Bush's watch, so it must be Bush's fault. It is about how the audience will perceive it, not your intent. So now the Clinton's will be able to say, "See, all the accusations are just mean cheap shots by the vast right wing conspiracy, look at how they hate me."

True, but the bonehead who is, is trying to pin the terrorist problem on W. Lurch is also preaching that Slick Willie's foreign policy was excellent--you know the one where we give our enemies food, oil and jobs.

NEWSFLASH: Clinton ain't running.

Are you sure, there's the Hildabeast lingering out there.

He's trying to rewrite history unchallenged. I for one am glad there's little reminders around to offset what we're about to be burried in.IMHO

In what markets is this ad going to run?

And, the story says "The Citizens United ad, which was to debut during the interview,......" Was? I'm in the NY market and I somehow doubt I'll see this ad.

Yes, and one of their latest talking points to helping invigorate Clinton's positive image is that "those mean, evil Republicans distracted President Clinton from fighting the war on Terror by needlessly impeaching him"...
But, unfortunately, we didn't "distract" Clinton until 1997-1998 - the first World Trade Center Bombings and the embassy bombings and the Kobar towers ALL happened BEFORE then!

Taking your eye off of the ball is how you *lose* games, not win them. Just as the ball player who would rather glance over at the hot cheerleader, so too goes the political fortunes of those who take their eyes away from the opponents who are actually running for office in order to focus on the glamorous opponents who are not.

I noticed that "was". But the title indicates it is going to air. I didn't see anythng else on the website, but I didn't search very hard. It certainly seems unusual that CBS would allow it air during "60 Minutes". I guess I'll have to overcome my evisceral distaste for that man and his words and watch it to find out.
