9/11 Commission Headline Lies
The Virginian ^ | 6/17/2004 | Moneyrunner

Posted on 06/17/2004 7:58:26 PM PDT by moneyrunner

There are two headlines in today’s Virginian Pilot. The top one is a lie.

“ON IRAQ: No Links to al-Qaida”

As is so often the case, the real story is not the news; it’s the press’ spin on the news.

During the Clinton Presidency, the press reported the Clintons’ “spin” – which they knew to be a lie – not with outrage (that’s reserved for Republicans) but with a sense of admiration: see Clinton lie about having sex with Monica; isn’t it amazing how he can say that with a straight face? What a man! See Clinton redefining the meaning of “is.” Isn’t that just marvelous? The press suspended its judgment about the morality of the issues of lying, perjury, even rape. With almost no exceptions, it viewed these issues in a moral vacuum, judging only their political impact. Of course that was when their man was in office.

Having abandoned its vaunted neutrality the press has decided, like the woman who has lost her virtue, that it enjoys its freedom to be a whore.

I have read the 9/11 Commission reports that were released on June 16. On page 5 of Staff Statement No. 15 the staff of the 9/11 commission states that “We have no credible evidence that Iraq and al Qaeda cooperated on attacks against the United States.” In this same paragraph, the commission staff states that “Bin Laden also explored possible cooperation with Iraq during his time in Sudan, despite his opposition to Hussein’s secular regime….A senior Iraqi intelligence officer reportedly made three visits to Sudan, finally meeting Bin Laden in 1994….There have been reports that contacts between Iraq and al Qaeda also occurred after Bin Laden had returned to Afghanistan ”

After the press willfully misinterpreted a single sentence in this report, the co-chairmen of the 9/11 Committee issued a statement defending the Bush administration in its characterization of the connection between al Qaeda and Iraq. The administration never claimed that Iraq was behind the 9/11 attacks. It has claimed that there were ties between many of the terror groups in Middle East, including al Qaeda and Iraq, but also including Iraq and Palestinian terrorists.

D*mn, I wish that was short enough to be my tagline.

Can somebody direct me to the exact quote where George W. Bush and/or Dick Cheney said that Iraq was involved in 9-11?

Well, the media whores obviously care more about their service to the DNC than they do their service to truth and accuracy. But to say they hate this country is a bit much ... can you say 'they hate the direction this country is going with a strong, resolute, determined Christian in the White House?' The blatancy of the partisan lies the media whores are telling is astonishing. We must remember that only a small percentage of Americans will even realize the lies (propaganda commissioned by the DNC) the media is spewing forth in their efforts to get their liberal butty Kerry elected. I'd say the purposed lies equal sedition in time of war ... but there isn't enough rope to dangle all the partisan democrat hack media spittlists!

I and Nobody can. And that's because they did not say it at least publicly. In President Bushes remarks to the United Nations before resolution 1441 was adopted. I did not hear him say it then either.

Most newspapers chew and spit AP wire garbage. Contact you local rag and demand to double-check the facts before using false and anti-American information. Threaten to cancel subscriptions or have friends write op eds to get the point across. Naperville Sun had the same as headline above and heard it all over radio too. Just sick!

Nice to see Cheney go on the attack. Of course, most in the media trying to defend their lies!

I didn't see it but I gather O'Reilly was none too pleased about the lying headlines either.

As for me, I'm not even a bit surprised at the outright lies. I have come to expect nothing less.

Perhaps I am so calm because I know FR is here to keep me sane.

You know it's a real shame when the media can never be held to account for their lies and distortions.

USA Today has a similar "No Connection!" headline, but then that's because they (I believe) depend on Al Jazerra for their newsfeeds.

I'm here in NYC, and the New York Post hits it right on the head. This paper rocks. Todays issue, page 35: "Wrong Again - 9/11 Commission ignores gobs of evidence" (emphasis theirs!) The article contains 13 bullet points of items linking Saddam and Osama.

I quote two examples:

I left off the other instances, perhaps they are over nypost.com.

Why is it that this paper has an editorial where the writer carefully outlines 13 specific points indicating a link between Osama and Saddam, and yet the 9/11 commission fails to find any links? Because I think that commission's research must have consisted of reading a copy of USA Today while having a latte in Starbucks, that's why. Seems to me like the journalist in the NYP did some fact finding, while the 9/11 commission did a bunch of Democrat kowtowing.

Kerry bit on this, has already responded and he'll get it stuck in his ear.

This headline is just as meaningful....
"We have no credible evidence that Tonga and al Qaeda cooperated on attacks against the United States"

No matter what they say, somehow I still get the gut feeling it will be found out that Sadam was involved and did know in advance.

Yeah, and the news is always stating as fact that there are no WMDs in Iraq. So what the hell were 40,000 Kurds and several hundred thousand Iranians gassed with?
