Was Goldschmidt Involved With Another Girl?

PORTLAND, ORE. - New reports are surfacing that former Oregon governor Neil Goldschmidt may have had another sexual relationship with a girl in the 1970s and that he has been the subject of a probe by child abuse investigators.

About a month ago, a call came into the Multnomah County Child Abuse hotline alleging that Goldschmidt had been sexually involved with another young girl decades ago.

This, in addition to the 14-year-old teenager he admitted to having an illegal sexual relationship with during the same time and while he was serving as Mayor of Portland.

The hotline shared the information with child abuse investigators and the Multnomah County District Attorney's office took up the case.

"When we get calls, no matter what they are, we take the information in, that information gets reviewed and there is a decision made in terms of the level of response we're going to give," said Mary Kay Landis, a Senior Supervisor with the Multnomah County Child Welfare Hotline.

The District Attorney's office refused to comment on the investigation; however, Chief Deputy Norm Frink did confirm that the investigation took place.

Frink told KATU News that child abuse investigators found the report credible, suggesting that a sexual encounter did take place even though the report was third-hand information.

However, Frink says investigators determined that the woman was 19 years old at the time of the alleged sexual encounter, which is not underage.

That means if the sexual encounter had taken place, there is nothing illegal about the relationship as far as the District Attorney's office is concerned.

Frink says the investigation has been closed and calls the whole thing 'a big nothing.'

He has not said if Goldschmidt was contacted or interviewed as part of this investigation.

KATU News tried to contact Goldschmidt's spokesperson Wednesday afternoon, but the call was not returned.

Meanwhile, amid all the recent revelations about Neil Goldschmidt, Oregon's current governor has had very little to say about the scandal.

At an event honoring veterans on Wednesday, the former marine was missing in action and now some are wondering if he is purposely ducking questions.

At issue is whether Kulongoski knew about the Goldschmidt scandal before appointing the former governor to the Board of Higher Education.

KATU News contacted the governor's office and was told that he was in a series of private meetings this week, with his only public appearance scheduled on Friday for a funeral.

Mary Ellen Glynn, who works for the Governor, says Kulongoski has not been trying to avoid the issue.

"He has been very available to talk about this and has repeatedly said that he did not know anything about it," she said by telephone. "If he had known anything about it, he certainly would not have appointed him (Goldschmidt) to be the chair of the Board of Higher Education."

Kulongoski has issued written statements, but as of yet has not scheduled a press conference as reporters have requested.

"He's an honest man," House Speaker aide Gary Wilhelms told KATU News. "So therefore, I believe that the best thing for him would be to answer the questions and get it over with because I don't think the question is going to go away."

The governor has given one interview so far, in which he said the scandal was keeping him from doing his job, which is running the state of Oregon.

This is the longest period of time that the governor has stayed out of public sight.

She was raped, not rapped.
When this story blows wide open we will discover that a HUGE number of "liberal" democrats knew of his crimes and kept it quiet for many many years.

One other observation, Why does Neil need the filter of the Governors Office? He hasn't been there since the 70's or have I missed somthing since I escaped in 1973?

Hmmmm, let's see. What was that rule of journalism again?

They don't mention a party affiliation, so he must be a Democrat?

Did he rap her on the head, or did he recite a bunch of juvenile, obscene psuedo-rhymes while sampling Aerosmith?

My bad (spelling). The spell check doesn't do titles and I was typing to fast which is slow for everyone else.
This story has yet to fully open up. The payoffs, the women, the deals, we have a lot to learn.

There seems to be no mention of party affiliation for either Goldschmidt or Kulongowski.

Am I to take from this that both are Democrats?

I haven't been following this story, but I'm going out on a limb here: Since a party affiliation wasn't prominently noted in the headline the governor must be a Dem?

You seem confused.

He didn't "rape" anyone, he had an affair.

Must remember that it's all ok now.

As Lars Larson says about Neil .... in Oregon Politics you need the "Full Neil Deal" to get anything done in this State or in the City of Portland. "Goldfingers" runs the Democrat Party in Oregon. He is still VERY powerful in Oregon, and that is VERY sad and dangerous.

But you are missing the point.

The stories almost uniformly refer to an affair, not a rape. They have minimized what he's done.
