A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Sounds Out Of Africa

Suggestions on how to live a happy & rewarding life:

Take time to smell the roses.

Discipline with a gentle hand.
Rake a big pile of leaves every fall and jump in it with someone you love.
Volunteer. Sometimes the jobs no one wants conceal big opportunities.
Have a professional photo of yourself made. Update it every three years.

Never miss an opportunity to have someone rub your back.
Never miss an opportunity to sleep on a screened-in porch.
Create a little signal only your spouse/friend knows so that you can show them your love across a crowded room.
Drive as you wish your kids would. Never speed or drive recklessly with children in the car.
Don’t judge people by their relatives.

Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something, and has lost something.
Don’t admire people for their wealth but for the creative and generous ways they put it to use.
Remember that just the moment you say, “I give up,” someone else seeing the same situation is saying, “My, what a great opportunity”

Don’t let your family get so busy that you don’t sit down to at least one meal a day together.
Remember the three Rs” Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all your actions.
When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
Plant zucchini only if you have lots of friends.
Every so often, invite the person in line behind you to go ahead of you.

Don’t go looking for trouble.
Don’t buy someone else’s trouble.
Meet regularly with someone who holds vastly different views than you.
Be the first to fight for a just cause.
When you have the choice of two exciting things, choose the one you haven’t tried.
There are people who will always come up with reasons why you can’t do what you want to do. Ignore them.
Never say anything uncomplimentary about another person’s dog.
Never miss a chance to dance with your wife.

When boarding a bus, say “hello” to the driver. Say “thank you” when you get off.
Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.
Set aside your dreams for your children and help them attain their own dreams.
Don’t confuse comfort with happiness.
Don’t confuse wealth with success.
Be the first to forgive.
Check for toilet paper before sitting down.

When a good man or woman runs for political office, support him or her with your time and/or money or both.
When a friend or loved one becomes ill, remember that hope, positive thinking AND prayers are strong medicines.
When you see visitors taking pictures of each other, offer to take a picture of their group together.
Help a child plant a small garden.
Call a nursing home or retirement center and ask for a list of the residents who seldom get mail or visitors. Send them a card several times a year. Sign it, “Someone who thinks you are very special”

Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.
Whether it’s life or a horse that throws you, get right back on.
No matter how old you get, hug and kiss your mother whenever you greet her.
Watch “The Andy Griffith Show” to help put things in perspective.
Put love notes in your child’s lunch box.

Thank those who open the Finest door every morning with coffee, goodies and words of wisdom.
Give thanks for all our Finest Friends.

Give thanks for FreeRepublic

"Remember the three Rs” Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all your actions."

What my wonderful mother conveyed to me in words and in her actions as the essentials for a life well lived can be summed up in two things:

~ Self-respect (gained through following God and the Ten Commandments)

~ A Sense of Humor

Everything else then would fall in place.

(Thanks, Mom - -)

They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing. —Psalm 92:14.

Our faltering steps and ebbing strength
Reveal life as a fading page;
Yet holding firm to Christ in faith
Keeps hope alive at any age.

Growing In Old Age

Read: Psalm 92:12-15

They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing. —Psalm 92:14.

Bible In One Year: Nehemiah 4-6; Acts 2:22-47

We have a gnarled, ancient plum tree in our backyard that has seen better days. Its bark is dark and creased with age, its limbs are sparse and spindly, and it leans about 45 degrees to the west. Two years ago I had to cut off some branches on one side and the tree lost its symmetry.

I thought we had lost it for sure several winters ago when we had a stretch of sub-zero weather. The man who sprays our trees said he believed it was dead. Yet it came to life that spring and continues to do so every year. Each April that old tree shrugs off the winter and puts out blossoms—fragrant pink flowers that grow profusely and beautify our yard. As I write this article, I can smell its sweetness in the air.

That plum tree endures because it has roots that tap deep into the soil. It draws its strength and nourishment from hidden subterranean sources.

And so it is with us. Our ability to endure—no, to flourish-is dependent on our being rooted in Christ. Those who read His Word, reflect on it, and pray it into their lives bring forth the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), even into old age. As Psalm 92:14 says, "They shall be fresh and flourishing." —David Roper

Our faltering steps and ebbing strength
Reveal life as a fading page;
Yet holding firm to Christ in faith
Keeps hope alive at any age. —D. De Haan

Better than counting your years is making all your years count.

Ah, yes, Your Honor.
The only way to get from 'There' to 'Here' gracefully is to heed that.
