I suspect anyone who fought in Vietnam is a little insulted by the comparisons of what's going on in Iraq to Vietnam. I'm certain it's no picnic there right now, but to say it compares to Vietnam is to greatly diminish the scale of just how dangerous and traumatic fighting in Vietnam was.

I could believe that the footage is genuine. Then again I would question the motives of those who shot and participated in the footage.

The Abu Graihb photos were released to the media by one of the participants.

There is some evidence that Nick Berg might have been instrumental in getting that footage...

The fighting I was referring to during Vietnam was the fighting of the war protestors. This whole thing with Kerry and Moore looks like 'old home week' for them.

No, the Abu Graihb photos were released to the media by Col. Hackworth. One of the witnesses to the photos released them to the Pentagon and they were quietly investigating. Someone in the Pentagon, who probably doesn't like Rummy, leaked them to Hackworth, who betrayed the trust of everyone in the armed services by releasing them to the sharks in the press. This is a time of war, if this was done during WWII, Hackworth would be in prison now under sedition charges.

Hackworth got them from the family:

Soldier's Family Set in Motion Chain of Events on Disclosure [Hackworth involved in CBS photos]

CUMBERLAND, Md., May 7 — Ivan Frederick was distraught. His son, an Army reservist turned prison guard in Iraq, was under investigation earlier this year for mistreating prisoners, and photographs of the abuse were beginning to circulate among soldiers and military investigators.

So the father went to his brother-in-law, William Lawson, who was afraid that reservists like his nephew would end up taking the fall for what he considered command lapses, Mr. Lawson recounted in an interview on Friday. He knew whom to turn to: David Hackworth, a retired colonel and a muckraker who was always willing to take on the military establishment. Mr. Lawson sent an e-mail message in March to Mr. Hackworth's Web site and got a call back from an associate there in minutes, he said.
