A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....06-14-04....Military Monday

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

G'mornin' Mayor! Hope you had a nice weekend. We did. We *finally* got some much needed rain yesterday. Yea!

Happy Flag Day everyone! Fly your flags! Isn't it neat flag day falls on our Military Monday?

Prayers for all our military folks, both past and present, and their families. Especially those families who have loved ones deployed in the thick of things in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ascended!

Read: 2 Corinthians 5:1-8

We are . . . well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.—2 Corinthians 5:8

Bible In One Year: Ezra 9-10; Acts 1

Joseph Parker (1830-1902) was a beloved English preacher. When his wife died, he didn't have the customary wording inscribed on her gravestone. Instead of the word died followed by the date of her death, he chose the word ascended.

Parker found great comfort in being reminded that though his wife's body had been placed in the grave, the "real" Mrs. Parker had been transported to heaven and into the presence of her Savior. When Parker himself died, his friends made sure that his gravestone read:

ASCENDED NOVEMBER 28, 1902

When a believing loved one dies, or when we ourselves face the process of dying, there's great comfort in the fact
that "to be absent from the body" is "to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8)

Death for us is not a dark journey into the unknown. It is not a lonely walk into a strange and friendless place. Rather, it is a glorious transition from the trials of earth into the joys of heaven, where we will be reunited with our loved ones in Christ who have gone before. Best of all, we will enjoy the presence of our Lord forever.

Yes, when a believer dies, the body is buried but not the soul. It has ascended! —Richard De Haan

Oh, how blessed is the promise
When our spirit is set free:
To be absent from the body
Means to live, O Lord, with Thee! —Bosch

For the Christian, death is the doorway to Glory.

I kept trying to highlight an excerpt from your post and make some comment. They all fell short so, I'll just say, "GREAT POST".

DK had to work OT Sat, the extra money will be nice...more to buy fabric. I completed a quilt last week, took pics but DK hasn't uploaded them to the web yet. I've been giving my hand a rest for the last few days and went and got a load of 'historical romance' books from the library.

I've finished the tops for 6 lap quilts that will go to the spinal cord unit of the Memphis Vets Hospital this Christmas. Our unit of the American Legion Ladies Aux provided 60 last year, and we want to do the same this year. We had lap quilts and afgans both knit and crochet. They are quick...only 3 ft by 3 ft.

Now I have to sandwich them and top quit them by machine. I'm not the greatest machine quilter, much prefer hand quilting, but these will be laundered to many times to use hand quilting on.

Wow! 60 for the vets! Great work; kudos to your guild.

Our little guild in Wisconsin did a similar thing but on a much smaller scale. We would make a couple of quilts to give to those who couldn't afford decent warm bedding. I don't need to tell you how cold it could get in Wisconsin winters.

Thanks for keeping me up on your quilting projects. I've not started back quilting yet but I miss it.

People think I'm daft but I miss living in Memphis, too! And think we were almost neighbors and didn't know it :-(
