1) Children can have perfectly good teeth without being exposed to fluoride.
Notice the word "CAN" not "DO" .... when we first moved to the US, a dentist asked my mother where we came from. I came from a country that had NO natural floride in the water, nor was floride added (early 50's). The dentist could tell at a glance that we were not from around there.
Though floride was not a required additive to water in the US back then, natural floride was found in most water supplies in the US.
When I was a kid, I visited the dentist every six months, as recommended. Seems every visit, I had AT LEAST one cavity. Today, at age 47, I have a mouth full of silver. I'm not sure when they started to add flouride; I think when I was in elementary school.
My three kids, age 17, 14 and 12 have had hardly any cavities. The dentist and pediatrician both agree it's due to the addition of the flouride.
My water is not flouridated (thank goodness) and none of my children have ever developed a single cavity.
