He's 45. Isn't that a little old to be carrying the alterna-torch?

Nothing more pathetic than an ageing rocker.

A newspaper spokeswoman said thousands of people, 90 percent from the United States, had contacted the site to complain. A few expressed support for the remarks. But the vast majority read the Drudge headline and thought, "who?"

I stopped listening to him when I retired my Zcabariccis in the mid 80s.

Seen Michael Stipe lately, though?
I often listen to an alternative station over the 'net.
The other day I got to hear this weepy crap by him... his latest "hit", I guess.
I googled & found this barfy bit of the lyrics:
I've been dreaming of a time when
to be English is not to be baneful
to be standing by the flag, not feeling shameful
racist or racial
Sigh.

He must be "cool" because he only has one name.

"Irish Heart, English Blood," or whatever the title, is by any measure a really goofy, bad song. Obviously Johnny Marr had all the talent in the Smiths . . .

Must be the first time in the history of music that "baneful" and "shameful" have been rhymed.

That's ancient in that world.
He should leave rabble rousing and instigating to the younger set.

This talk about being over 45 is making me feel uncomfortable. Think I'll go listen to Liz Phair's song about old underwear.

Ah, beat me to it. Johnny Marr is a great guitarist. Morrissey had 1 decent solo album and it was nothing more than The Smiths, but with Morrissey on the cover.
Mid-life petulance. Nothing in more aggrevating.

Maybe we could fix up Morrissey with Miss Morford?

Exactly. And there were likely quite few who vowed never to listen to "Brown Eyed Girl" again if that "'Van Morrisey' thinks he's such hot stuff".
Cheap and easy way for a guy with very, very limited career success to get his name in lights for awhile again. Heck, the highlight of this dude's career is likely that he was made fun of mercilessly on Mystery Science Theater 3000. But it IS funny how leftists have that parasitic thing down pat. The two things they do best are jump in someone else's spotlight, and hate. All that hatred, just because there are people in the world who have the courage to stand up and tell them "no", to point out that certain behaviors should not be tolerated, let alone accepted. Sigh.. must be a pity never to grow up.

Morrissey's record company, Sanctuary Records, could not confirm the remarks. "We do not have a recording of the gig, but as far as we can tell, Morrissey was just alerting the audience to the fact that Ronald Reagan (news) had died," the newspaper quoted the company as saying. "He then simply followed that up with his comment about George Bush, which was his own opinion. He is no stranger to controversy."
Sounds like a confirmation to me.
