ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- NBC's Today Show has once again provided more evidence of how the media cannot go too low to exploit tragedy and blame it on Ronald Reagan. This morning, host Katie Couric and reporter Kelly O'Donnell suggested Reagan-era budget cuts in mental health programs are part of the reason alleged Capitol Hill shooter Russell Weston was allowed to commit his crime.

Didn't take long for the Socialist news commentators to start trying to chip away at Reagan.

These two are such morons. They cannot think logically. They have no true concept of cause and effect.

Someone should gag both of them.

I'd rather listen to Howard Stern's obscenities than the shit that comes out of Katie Couric's mouth.

I don't care about the date. Couric and O'Donnell are still morons...just 6 years older.

It's a good thing we have the Media Research Center, otherwise we'd never know what Katie Couric has to say.

I will increase my charitable contributions to the mental health industry just as soon as they "admit" Katie into one of their facilities.

Mental health programs are state responsibilities. The Federal government provides matching funds for the Medicaid program, which is really a state-run program, but the matching rates stayed steady throughout the Reagan years. In fact, states aggressively expanded their Medicaid mental health services during the Reagan years.

The only Federal mental health funding is the mental health block grant. That funding has never been a major part of the mental health spending by states, and was more than offset by the massive growth in Medicaid mental health expenditures during the 1980s.

The claim being made is utterly and completely false. The real problem was that most states do not have civil outpatient commitment laws. Those laws mandate that a person with a serious mental illness must take his or her meds or else be committed. It's the only way to get some people to take their medication, as most mentally ill people do not think there's anything wrong with them and thus will not take medication. Of course do-gooder liberals fight such laws as a violation of the mentally ill's right to act out without consequence.

It's far too complex for an 80 IQ person like Katie Couric to grasp that the real problem is the laws that most states have not enacted, not the amount of funding. And I'm not joking when I saw "80 IQ", she is really not very intelligent.

Realizing that you are an airhead and everyone knows, is such a great release for Kouric and company. They can say anything they want without a care in the world.

I thought Carter shut down the asylums. It was too cruel to keep people locked up.

Wasn't it the case that Katy, on her way up the broadcasting ladder, slept with the wrong guys which resulted in the shooter not finding his psychiatrist in the office at the standard time?

Bet she doesn't even remember who that was, eh?!

The lefties have to find some way to tear the Reagan Legacy down. After all, they want to whoopla when BClinton goes, and they don't have much to work with for Carter. Their last 'great' guy was John Kennedy--40 years ago.

Apparently 3 talkingpoints memos are circulating.

Katie must have been assigned Reagan-era budget cuts in mental health.

CSPAN callers (to the Democrat line) keep recounting how Reagan is responsible for the spread of AIDS. 8-10 callers (betweeen mute button) have brought up that. They seem to be reading from the same script.

The remainder are harping on Iran -Contra. Trouble is with it, the general public responds, "huh????" when the reporters stick a mic in their faces and ask their opinion of how bad Iran Contra was for President Reagan.

The libs are digging dirt. They can't get back to Abu Dabba Doo Prison pix. It will be all they can do to remain even half-way civil for 2 more days. [snicker]

WEll, given the date of this press release, at the very least it wasn't a comment saved for the day of mourning for President Reagan. Any elected official, even past tense, is fair game for political fodder. We all know that. And tasteless comments are expected from the Dems.

Yup, Carter and liberal judges. But you wouldn't believe how many C-SCAM callers in the last three days have blamed it on President Reagan.

And so by that logic, it's entirely Clinton's fault that 9/11 happened. And the Cole. And the first WTC bombing.
And the OKC bombing.

He cut the CIA budget. And the military's. And had his assistant Attorney General create new impediments to intelligence agencies communicating together.
