The first thing any officer or child needs to learn is that the human species is the most deadly of ALL the species. Dogs know that. They smell us everywhere, and we bring home SUVs loaded with chicken, beef, and pork thirty minutes after we left. For dogs, we're the uber-hunters.
Take the high road, and you never have to fear a dog.

Amen. Dogs aren't used to people (or anything) coming back at them or ignoring them altogether. It puts their little minds off.
LOL. I never thought of it that way. Dogs must look at us with a mixture of envy and admiration. LOL.
I was asked to feed a friend's dogs once while they were out of town. He didn't tell me they were enormous dogs capable of eating me in one bite. (I think.) So I used doggy treats to distract them while I gave their food. Spread doggy treats all over the back yard but I got out alive.
That's something that separates us from the animals - we don't have to use force as a first option.
