Santa Clara Valley Water District hoists "rainbow diversity" flag ~ Response from H.R.
e-mail | June 2004

Today, at the Water District where I work, following a Gay, Lesbian and Trans Gender celebration at lunch, they hoisted the rainbow diversity flag in place of the California flag on the pole in front of the headquarters building. The flag stayed there for about 2 1/2 hours. I would like each of you to take a stand on this incident and at least take the time to call or write the Water District at the following phone number and addresses:

Main office: 408-265-2600 Ask for Stan Williams CEO
Address: Santa Clara Valley Water District
Website: www.valleywater.org
Email: swilliams@valleywater.org

If people don't stand up to this promotion of immoral behavior, they will get even bolder the next time. I don't want to have to report the next year that they replaced the American flag with the rainbow flag. Please contact them immediately and voice your opposition to the inappropriate use of tax dollars and the "in-your-face" agenda of the gays and lesbians. There is no diversity of opinion at the Water District when this is message employees are getting from management.

I have already been on KSFO radio tonight and asked people to call and write the Water District-and I am not done yet.

Dear Mr. ######;

Thanks for your message and interest in this subject. Stan Williams referred your message to me for response.

Briefly, the LGBT is a recognized employee organization and their event met the guidelines for our diversity events. Raising the flag was a part of their proposal and they are not the first campus group to raise their flag. The vetrans group raised the POW flag during one of their events in the past.

We have a strong policy of non discrimination which conforms to state law. The California flag had to be removed temporarily because the flagpole will only accomodate two flags at one time.

Best regards,
Jose L. Peralez
Deputy Administrative Officer, Human Relations

Wasn't this the city that just removed a cross from their seal?

Apparently this diversity thing just can't quite fit Christians in just yet. Maybe in a century or two.

Well, we've been having an upswing of mountain lion sightings, so they'll find a place or Christians, perhaps in the same arena.

Isn't FLAG BURNING encouraged in california?

I would simply apply some First Amendment rights - and if someone tried to object to that? That is where the second amendment comes in.

One man says to a second man: "Do you believe in the First Amendment freedom of speech?"
The second man says: "Of course I do."
The first man then asks: "Do you believe in the Second Amendment freedom to bear arms?"
The second man replies: "No, I don't."
The first man insists: "Then shut up!"

The moral of the story is: you can have your rights, but you have to protect and defend them, too.

Only if it's a U.S. or Israeli flag. Burning the fag flag could be considered a hate crime.

This is exactly the type of blatant political correctness the Left is pushing for....mass secularism and the gradual to total removal of traditional American values.

Dear Mr. Williams,

What does conducting "diversity events" have to do with delivering safe and plentiful water to your customers at a fair price? Considering that your employees have time for such activities, it would seem that you can afford a reduction in staff.

Perhaps the voters should consider an organizational change starting at the board level.

Best regards,

CO

The Santa Clara Valley Water District board of directors is composed of seven members. Five members are elected from geographical areas which coincide with the county supervisorial districts, and two at-large members are appointed by the county Board of Supervisors. The directors serve overlapping four-year terms. This structure was created pursuant to the adoption of the District Act.
