Publicly Mourning Reagan
n/a | 6/05/2004 | Vanity

As noted in some posts, like this:

Until www.reaganvigil.com goes live late tonight or early tomorrow, here is a link to the website to organize candlelight vigils in hometowns across America and internationally.
http://ice.he.net/~freepnet/reagan/

there will be vigils and the like for one of the greatest presidents this country has ever known. But not all will be joining us -- the hypocritical, intolerant, insensitive Left is going to be having a heyday of disrespectful celebration.

So the question in my mind is what else can we do to show the public we care? The flags at my house are flying at half-mast. But what else can we do?

Once upon a time (vague memory says) when as a country we were less (auto)mobile, we'd wear black armbands. But that seems, um, odd today.

As we not so long ago tied yellow (or red, whote & blue) ribbons to our car antennas, should we now tie black? Should we do something else? Nothing else...?

Black armbands are still the go, where I live.

I think I shall dress entirely in black... Ronald Reagan, RIP.

As soon as things become clearer as to the schedule, I hope to take a day off and drive to DC to show my last respects when he's in the Rotunda. Its only a 2 hour drive from here in Charlottesville, VA.

After looking in vain for some way to indicate "half-mast" on my home flag mast (the kind that is attached to the door-jam outside of my front door), I took some string and with some loops was able to move it to half mast.

I normally only wear my "full-dress" uniform when going to funerals. Today when I go to work, I will be wearing it as a sign of my prayers and deepest respect for the greatest president of modern times.

I did the same with my flags; one on the house and one out by the road.
