The National Aviary is seeking to raise $20 million to $30 million for an expansion to its North Side complex.

A key addition, Executive Director Dayton Baker said Friday, will be a 250-seat indoor Immersion Theater, where visitors can watch shows while sitting among wild and rare birds and observing their natural behavior.

"Falcons will swoop only inches over your heads," Baker said. "Pelicans will dive into the water, and penguins will jump out of the water. You'll be able to watch nature in all its glory."
