Brokaw Features Movie Trailer Promoting Moore's Bush-Bashing

On the June 2 NBC Nightly News, Brokaw announced: "An award- winning film about President Bush and his team, by documentarian and liberal activist Michael Moore, will show up in American theaters after all. The Walt Disney Company at first refused to release the film for political reasons, so a separate partnership was formed headed by the Weinstein brothers of Miramax Films. They began publicizing the film, Fahrenheit 9/11, today with selected clips."

NBC viewers were then treated to film excerpts with a fast- paced rock musical background.

Bush in black tie at a podium at a dinner: "This is an impressive crowd, the haves and the have mores. [Edit jump with shot of champagne cork being popped] Some people call you the elite. I call you my base [laughter]."

Deep-voiced film trailer announcer, over series of video clips of camera zooming in on John Ashcroft's smirking face, troops running, trucks burning in Iraq, scroll over terror alert levels sign, crowd at Florida vote counting locale in 2000 (I assume those supposedly awful Republicans who bullied local officials), more quick shots of troops and protesters: "Comes the true story that will make your temperature rise."

Full black screen with film title in white growing larger:
"FAHRENHEIT 9/11"
Bush on golf course talking to reporters: "I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you. [backing up, golf club comes into view] Now watch this drive."

Video of Bush hitting golf ball.

With that, the promo trailer ended and Brokaw, back in studio, added: "Fahrenheit 9/11, which won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival, will be in the theaters June 25th. Harvey Weinstein of Miramax is a prominent supporter of the Democratic Party."

That "news story" consumed 1:08. Over on Access Hollywood, a product of NBC Productions, Fahrenheit 9/11 got just 14 seconds as co-anchor Pat O'Brien stated, over scenes from the film of Bush playing golf: "Michael Moore's controversial film, Fahrenheit 9/11, which is critical of President Bush's actions in the months leading up to September 11th, is expected to roll out on June 25th."

Entertainment Tonight took 18 seconds to convey the same news, but they didn't have any film trailer video and so showed a couple of B-roll clips of Moore.

The propagandist documentarian, Moore, imposes on his audience his point of view. One would wonder if his films should be defined as documentary as Moore "attempts to steer the action his way, coloring outside the lines "without informing the audience". Propaganda documentaries can be considered unethical and contradictory to the nature of documentary film - which were meant to be factual.

One of the most notorious propaganda films, Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will, depicted Nazi soldiers "marching to classical music, singing, playing, and cooking". Soundbites of speeches were given by various advisors to Hitler, and portions of a speech by Hitler himself. The film's intent was to show the world how the Germans all pledged their loyalty to Hitler who was on a God-given mission.

Frank Capra's, Why We Fight, a newsreel series shown in response at local movie houses across America covered an entirely different side of World War II depicting reasons why we should go to war. These documentaries might be said to offer "creative treatment" or viewpoints "of actuality".

Riefenstahl was awarded with the gold medal at the World Exhibition 1937 in Paris.

Michael Moore on May 22, 2004 received the Cannes Film Festival's top honor, the Palme d'Or.

"Brokaw Features Movie Trailer Promoting Moore's Bush-Bashing"

So what? I mean, if Moore dropped 80 pounds, shaved, showered, doubled his IQ and vocabulary, and voila! -Tom Brokaw. Separated at birth.

Here I was hoping that Micky Mouse Moore wouldn't get his film out. Therefore, his much public bellyaching infamous notoriety would be dismissed and forgotten by the masses. Thus, Micky Mouse Moore wouldn't get any profit from the movie. So much for wishful thinking.

Umm, when it's a controversial film? Both with the content and distribution? When it wins the Cannes D'Or? (Silly award, yes, but still news) When it is produced by the world's most famous "documentarian"? (It is indeed propaganda, not a documentary.)

Did Brokaw beat other networks to the punch? Did he show Gibson's trailer - another controversial film? Or the "Day After Tomorrow" trailer? I'd want answers to these questions before I could claim bias.

Unfortunately I watched the NBC news last night and saw this. It did not make Bush look good at all.

P.S. The title's a little long. You could have shortened it to "Brokaw Trailer Trash."

"...liberal activist Michael Moore..."
"Harvey Weinstein of Miramax is a prominent supporter of the Democratic Party."

Looks like Brokaw actually got 2 facts correctly stated in his report.... just like you see in World Weekly News, National Enquirer, and Star.

Showing this film as "news" it nothing more than bias and you know it! There is nothing to be gained from showing the trailer. A mention of his "award", maybe. A mention of the movie itself, but to show the entire trailer? I think not!

"Unfortunately I watched the NBC news last night and saw this. It did not make Bush look good at all."

I think thats the intent of the film and NBC news. Imagine if a conservative had done a film about Clinton. It would be easy to make him look bad too. Soundbites and video can make powerful propoganda, whichever way a director wants to slant it.

This movie will roll over and play dead here in the USA. The terminally hip crew will race to see it the first weekend so they will have something to talk about at the watercooler and cocktail parties, but its all preaching to the chior.

Gee, I wonder why the media falls over itself to promote agitprop like Moore-on's so-called "film", yet never said a word about true documentaries like Micheal McNulty's "WACO: The Rules of Engagement".

Y'all don't think the media could be biased or anything, do ya?

Certainly I don't know it. Showing the entire trailer, and being the first to do it, is a scoop. What's to be gained? First to show the trailer many people want to see... I must admit I am curious.

I see no reason for freepers to worry, btw. Moore's audience is the already converted.

only goes to truely prove that there is media bias after all. I saw the news broadcast and that is all it was, was a trailer, no other news around except that it was possibly going to be picked up for distribution in the US...

I mean really a fat micky mouse charecter like moore's film getting picked up for distribution, does that really warrent national news mention... I think not

What's to be gained?

What is always to be gained and one of our largest problems... the liberal brainwashing of the mushy middle.

I remember my Japanese in-laws telling me about a video of klinton in his remaining days (months?) of his last term....They had explained how it was being played on TV, and was very much publicized. I did not believe them at first, until I finally found it as a download (maybe here at FR).... And there it was, klinton in all his glory, roaming the white house, messing with candy machines, saying all sorts of stupid things...it was rather unbelievable even while watching it....

I don't ever recall seeing that on the "News"....the mass media sucks, plain and simple...I must just keep faith that the People see through the farce...

They do and will continue to see through these attempts at liberal brainwashing. I again refer to the Presidential election of 1864, when Abe Lincoln was being dragged through the mud by the Democrats, much the same as is being done to GW Bush by the combined bias of the MSMedia, John Kerry and his "traitor" Democrat Party. George McClellan and the Democrats, traitors then as now called Lincoln every name in the book and called for a peace with the Confederacy and recognition of a Confederate Country. Lincoln remarked in the Spring of 1864 that he would not be re-elected. The victories of Grant, Sherman, Thomas, Sheridan, etc. gave Lincoln the boost he needed to win, but, in fact, it was the "regular" folks that saw what was at stake, and backed Lincoln with their votes, even though the war dead, wounded and prisoned were at unbelievable numbers. Why? Because Lincoln had a vision of a United nation and the abolishment of slavery! Old Abe was far from perfect, but he saw what Democrats could not see and still do not see today! America, you have the opportunity to move the world toward freedom and liberty for all, or to fall into the black hole of nothingness and big brother government. If the American people have any sense of reality, they will destroy the current Democrat Party this November. If not, they deserve all that will befall this great nation of ours!
