Iraqis took over control of civilian air traffic at Baghdad Airport yesterday, but they won't assume full responsibility for the country's airspace until later this year.
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) will retain control of most of Iraq's airspace during a five-step handover process. The transition to Iraqi civilian control is seen as essential to establishing an independent civilian aviation system (DAILY, May 10).

Wow, I thought it might be John Kerry taking over the aviation oversight of Iraq. I mean, he is an expert in flying around the country in private jets burning loads of fossil fuel while telling Americans how they should conserve and not be wasteful. Hell, he doesn't even have an SUV ... the one you see him in doesn't belong to him. It belongs to his family you see! He's our environmentalist hero!!
