ITHACA, NY--Gay couples in Ithaca are suing to change the state constitution's ban on same-sex marriages.
Lawyers for the "Ithaca Fifty” filed the suit against the New York State Department of Health and the City of Ithaca.
It's been in the works since the beginning of March, when Mayor Carolyn Peterson announced a plan to help any gay couple who decided to sue win its case against the city.
Lawyers plan to argue that the Department of Health and the City of Ithaca are denying gay couples equal protection under the law.
"The law, we believe, is on our side. We believe, more importantly, history is on our side. As we start this process, we all realize that we are standing on the shoulders of the giants who have brought cases based on discrimination before us,” said attorney Richard Stumbar.
Stumbar says this suit could be as big as “Brown vs. the Board of Education,” which ended segregation in schools fifty years ago.

On a serious note, I think we have yet to see the beginning of this kind of cultural and judicial depravity, and its only a matter of time before the ACLU and the 9th Circus declare the Constitution un-constitutional and provide us with some sort of new UN manifesto of rights....
