A Tennessee liberal finally gets it
6/2/04 | Tim Chavez

So you thought Bredesen and the bunch on the Hill were keeping spending down

Link only due to copyright complaint.

Tim Chavez finally gets it. The politicians have been lying for years about the budget and growing it at about TWICE the rate of inflation plus population growth for about 10 years now. This is all an attempt by the liberal DemocRats to shove an income tax down our throats by creating ANOTHER "revenue crisis".

Mark my words, if Bredesen is re-elected in 2006, he will IMMEDIATELY begin to push for an income tax.

It only took him 6 years to 'get it'. This makes him a fast learner among the liberals.

I only agreed to move to TN because they did not have a state income tax. I don't like Frist either. Even in the county I live in they keep raising taxes and talking of raising taxes including wheel tax and emmissions, etc. The pay here is low because the cost of living is lower than some places but the bankruptcy rate is extremely high. You cannot get blood from a turnip. This should be interesting.

Chavez has become their tame conservative. Now if Dwight Lewis would go play in traffic, the bile that racist spews is as bad if not worse than the syndicated columnists they run. At least he came out and admitted he wanted the President to lose the election. Of course the Tennessean has acted as the house newsletter for the dims for years. Hell, Larry Daughtrey got is wife a federal judgeship out of it.

Sounds like it's gonna be time to circle legislative plaza again.

I can't believe the 180 that Chavez has done.

Are there any Republicans who have a chance of beating Bredesen in 2006?

What gets me about TN is that we have an almost 10% sales tax and we're still in a budget crisis. It's pathetic! They expect us to live within our means...why can't they do the same?
Do you know where a lot of this problem came from?
TENNCARE
This government medical handout, coupled with deficit spending has nearly bankrupted the state.
A similar thing will happen nationally, especially with this new prescription drug deal.

AAAHHHH!!! FRUSTRATION!

Isn't it amazing how government gets in a financial crisis every time it further steps outside the territory that belongs to the Government?!

Doubtful. The Rats are pretending that everything is rosy and thater is absolutely nothing wrong and the liberal Tennessean plays right along while the TV news media more or less igores the capitol hill shenanigans. The GOP's best bet is to take over either the House or Senate and control the legislation that comes to the floor. We are only about 3 senate seats and 5 house seats away.

Frustration is right. Why is it that the government is alsways asking the taxpayers to tighten THEIR belt yet NEVER actually cuts it's own budget?

No, not really. Bredesen has played the part of old time southern democrat pretty well, so he'll be re-elected without much trouble. Then he will start the push for the income tax. This was always part of the plan.

talking of raising taxes including wheel tax

Our wonderful county commission just voted to increase our wheel tax five-fold. It hasn't passed second reading yet, but it will. One commissioner, in trying to dismiss the hardship she will be causing to some people, repsonded, "It's just a couple of six-packs and a carton of cigarettes."

TENNCARE

Damn straight! Why in the heck are we paying for the health care for 1/4 of the population. I mean, come on. Some people may be so poor that they would require help to pay for their insurance (and that should not be done by the government), but 1 out of every 4 Tennesseans? That leviathan needs to meet a timely death.
