Tom Selleck plays General Dwight D. "Ike" Eisenhower in this sweeping story of the tense days leading up to the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe in WWII.
Ike confronts seemingly insurmountable problems--not enough landing craft, tanks may get stuck on the beaches, paratroopers may be massacred in the sky, and weather threatens to doom the operation.
Ike must make tough decisions--and accept the blame if the invasion fails! With Timothy Bottoms as "Beetle Smith. (2004)

Tape rolls at 8pm. Selleck doesn't look much like Ike, but based on production stills, this Selleck doesn't look much like Magnum either. I think this is going to be quite good.

Heard about an interview with the writer of this movie. During one of the initial meetings one one the Hollywood execs seriously asked him "so who are the bad guys in this film?"

Tom Selleck does not seem like good casting for Ike to me. Too tall for starters.

Hmm...didn't A&E pick Kelsey Grammer (sp?) to play Geo. Washington for
another A&E-made film?
Interesting that they'd pick two of the very few uncloseted Republicans
in Hollywood for the role of an American icon.

First I've heard of it. Is this a two hour movie, documentary, or what? Anyone know?

I'm way ahead of you, Dr. S. :)
We were invited to friends' house tonight for dinner. They were going to rent 'Band of Brothers' for us all to watch, as a Memorial Day tribute, but I suggested that we tune into 'Ike' instead (weve already seen 'B of B' several times). I'm hoping it doesn't turn out to be a hatchet job, but, with Selleck playing the role of Ike, I tend to believe it will be fact-based.

Anyone wanting to 'warm up' to the era ahead of tonights film, try giving a listen to
Rat Patrol. Swing music and occasional soundbites (like Ike, Churchill, etc). Fabulous. It's free, just press the big yellow button (plays with winamp).
