Kerry Heckled at Memorial Day Event

Sen. John Kerry's record as an anti-war protester came back to haunt him on Memorial Day when he was confronted by a heckler as he tried to pay his respects to a soldier killed in the Vietnam War.

"How much money are you getting to betray our POWs?" an unidentified middle-aged woman shouted as Kerry visited the Vietnam Veterans memorial on the Washington Mall.

"Are you paying tribute to all the people you spat on, Senator Kerry?" she added.

The incident came as Kerry attempted to honor William Bronson, a Massachusetts native who was killed in Vietnam.

Kerry led the fight to have Bronson's name added to those already inscribed on the black granite wall, according to Reuters. "I'm glad we could finally get the appropriate thing done," the top Democrat told his mother, Barbara, who was there for the ceremony.

The heckling episode served to underscore the resentment many veterans still feel towards Kerry from his days as a leader with the Vietnam Veterans Against the War, when he teamed up with anti-American actress Jane Fonda.

Ironically, though Kerry has made his service in Vietnam a centerpiece of his campaign and has continued to attack President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard, veterans are shunning him, according to a poll released last week.

Though the CBS survey showed Kerry opening up an eight point lead over Bush overall, the poll's internal numbers show Kerry trailing badly among veterans, with only 41 percent supporting him while 54 percent back Bush.

The problem with having a face this long is that there's a lot of it for people to get into.

I wish the press would ask him why he would honor what he calls war criminals.

They really need to talk to a few more veterans. I'd bet just about anything that the split is a whole lot wider than is being reported here.

You won't hear it on ABS, CBS, NBC, PMSNBC, CNN, NPR, Air America so it us up to us to tell everyone we know about it. Talk about it on the bus, the train, with co-workers. It's up to us to spread the word on how much of a hypocrite Kerry is.

Kerry wasn't going to the wall to pay anyone respects...he was going there for campaign footage. What as arse...his very presence near that wall is a travesty!

And of that "41 percent supporting" Kerry, my thinks 98 percent are phony vets like that bunch he surrounded himself with in the Winter Soldiers FUBAR...

I read in an AP article that Bronson died in '76 from a wound he suffered in Vietnam in '68.

My question is, when did *Senator* Kerry begin the "fight" to get Bronson's name added to the wall? Did he take up the issue when he became a presidential candidate, or did he take it up years ago before he decided to make the run for president?

Also, the AP reported in their "news" story that the Vietnam Memorial is a "touchstone" for Kerry. They did not offer evidence to support this. I want to know how often Kerry has ever visited the monument.
