'New York' Mag: Alexandra Polier Excerpt [Next week's big story?]

On Monday, New York mag will publish a long feature by Alexandra Polier. (Earlier this year, various media outlets claimed that Polier had had an affair with Presidential candidate John Kerry.)

After the jump: an excerpt from the story in which Polier interviews -- or, tries to interview -- Brian Flynn of the Brit tabloid The Sun, who was the first to name her. Hot: the stalkee becomes the stalker.

[UPDATE: And? There's more Polier excerpt on Wonkette.]

Though my name wasn't mentioned in the initial Drudge "exclusive," it made its first appearance in the British tabloid The Sun on Friday, February 13. The article, by one Brian Flynn, referred to Kerry as a sleazeball in the headline and said I was 24 (didn't I wish).

It purported to quote my father at home in Pennsylvania discussing the senator, saying, "I think he's a sleazeball." The article also claimed to quote my mother as saying Kerry had once chased after me to be on his campaign. My mother was not even home when Flynn called, and Flynn didn't tell my father -- who at this stage was unaware of the Drudge allegations -- that he was interviewing him.

Instead, he presented himself as a friend trying to get hold of me to talk about John Kerry. My father, a Republican, who believed Kerry had flip-flopped on various issues, said, "Oh, that sleazeball."

Here's how it reappeared in Flynn's piece: "There is no evidence the pair had an affair, but her father, Terry, 56, said: 'I think he's a sleazeball.'"

...Afraid I would lose my temper, I asked my editor to call [Flynn] first.

"I was calling to ask you who your source was for your story which named Alex Polier as the intern in the Kerry story," she said.

"Ah, many people have asked me; it was a fantastic source," he said. "I broke that story to the world, you know!" he added proudly. "But your source was wrong," she pointed out. He paused, startled. "You've just ambushed me," he cried. "You've ambushed me!"

"I think you should speak to Alex," she said and passed me the phone.

"Hello," he said, sounding nervous.

"I'd like to talk to you. I'm writing a piece and have some questions."

"It's not a good time right now," he said. "Let's meet up next week."

"Why did you quote my mother when she wasn't even home?" I persisted.

"I really can't talk about this right now, Alex," he said.

When I finally tracked him down the following week, he was brusque and told me to go through The Sun's PR office. I asked him about my mother again, but he kept saying, "Sorry, Alex, proper channels." Reached in London, Lorna Carmichael, The Sun's PR manager, refused to comment. I went to Flynn's apartment, and spoke to his wife through the intercom. "Go away and leave us alone!" she cried. "He's not going to come down or speak to you."

I hope that this is not true as it would only give him a big boost in the polls. That is how it works for Rats, sad to say.

IMHO, there's more, much more, to this story. But it's not time yet.

This is stupid juvenile payback without the intelligence of journalistic turnabout or the nastiness of real revenge.

The article posted on FR from the New York Post a short while later tells how Kerry's aides were afraid that the rumors were true and drilled Polier about it. Makes you wonder why they felt compelled to pursue the issue with her if their own boss had already denied it. Could it be that Mr. Kerry is not believable...even to his own people. What a shock...not!

What took her so long, and why would she be afraid she'd "lose her temper" but was not upset enough to "set the record straight", on the record, right off the bat?

An Africa-based freeper whose name I forget had some interesting insights to this tale in older threads.

Whether they had an affair or not, the more they deny it, the more people will suspect. Even most Freepers had forgotten about this story. It seems kind of dumb for Polier to resurrect it.

Well, it's hard to see how Kerry can profit by this. The story was dead, and this will just bring it back to life for a while. More likely it's Polier's attempt to leave Africa, return from the dead, and resume her career. It won't help Kerry, but it may make Polier a rising star on the night club circuit. If Kerry isn't gone by fall maybe she can write a book about it.

I think Kerry has had a string of honeys, that some in the press know who they were, and are keeping it quiet, "so as to not taint the electoral process with events not germane to the governance of the US."

What I'd like to see (Rush?) is a web site where folks could nominate and vote on women wealthy enough to be Flipper John's next wife. There'd be at least two categories, those wealthy women who were currently married and those who were single/widowed/divorced.

Since he's from Mass. andvery casual about the teachings of his church, there would also be a section for nominating wealthy potential male spouses. Because of the possible pain to Terry and her wealthy sons, the site would have to be off limits to them.

Let me start by nominating as John Kerry's possible next wife, the following: (1)Nikki Hilton, (2) Oprah Winfrey (look at the diversity argument), (3) Michael Jackson (good Clintonian like credentials), (4) Martha Stewart, (5) any one of the Walton women, (6) the Harry Potter author (heavy Eurinal support), (7) the current Mrs. Vicente Fox (lots & lots of money), or (8) either of the Olson twins. Barbra Streisand might qualify for the money but is propably too old.

Can some one start this up? Each candidate would have to have pros/cons and meet stringent qualifying standards. We don't want any trailor trash for Flipper John.
