Soldier in Lynch's Unit Caught, Killed

PORTLAND, Ore. - A soldier initially listed as killed in action while riding in the same doomed convoy as former prisoner of war Jessica Lynch actually had been captured by Iraqi fighters before he was killed, the Oregon National Guard said Thursday.

More than a year after the March 23, 2003, ambush, the military released new details to the family of Sgt. Donald Walters of Salem, Ore.

Walters "was held separately from his fellow soldiers and killed while in custody," according to a news release from the National Guard.

"He was executed — shot twice in the back," Guard spokesman Maj. Arnold Strong said in a telephone interview Thursday. "An Iraqi ambulance driver witnessed six fedayeen rebels standing outside a building guarding him while he was still alive. That same witness evacuated his dead body to a hospital."

The family was told of the new details and was expected to hold a press conference Thursday evening, according to the release.

Walters' fate drew attention because the details of his actions remarkably resemble a story circulated in the media, based on anonymous sources, describing how Lynch had fought until her ammunition ran out.

After her rescue, Lynch, of Palestine, W.Va., said she did not fire a shot. Her injuries resulted from a Humvee crash during the firefight in the Iraqi town of Nasiriyah, just days into the war.

An Army report released last summer on the ambush of the 507th Army Maintenance Company said that Walters, 33, likely died in the fighting that left 10 other soldiers dead. The report said there were no American witnesses to his death.

In March, the Army posthumously awarded Walters the Silver Star for gallantry with marked distinction. He also was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

When you kill an unarmed prisoner, it is called murder. Leave it to the so called professionals at AP to carry the ball for the terrorists.

Why we have not nuked them?

Because we don't have the same leadership we had with Truman and some of the other presidents before him. The leaders of today don't have backbone. They're spineless. The Democrats are even worse.

The Japanese would not surrender. The Islamics are about the same if you are doing an analogy of fanaticism. Hiroshima was A-bombed and women, little children, babies, dogs, cats, birds, bugs and snakes (along with a few fighting men) were killed. It had to be done. It was horrible, but it had to be done. Nagasaki was also nuked. The same demographic died. Yes, it was horrific and sad. Japan finally surrendered.

We have simply got to have the will to take a place like Fallujah off of the face of the map with a nuclear weapon. And, if that doesn't work, then Najaf. Or, Karbala, etc. It won't take but two or three maximum before the radicals decide it's not worth it. I DON'T care what the world thinks. The vast majority of the world hates us fervently anway. As someone so aptly posted some time ago...can't remember who said it, "Let them hate us so long as they fear us." It is time to do something to bring the fear of God to the people of the world. Now is the time. Where is our leadership? Where?

Those medals can't ease the pain, I'd imagine, but it's a thank you in some fashion from us.

Hmmm, not a word about his status as a POW and the atrocity committed against him by the Fedayeen. Where's the outrage by our media? Just a "matter of fact" report buried on page 10 of some newspapres, ignored by most. Maybe if they had taken photos of him naked with a sandbag on his head they would have gone beserk.

Comparing this current situation in Iraq with Japan in 1945 is a bit extreme. We had lost quite a bit more than 700 soldiers in 1945 before we decided to drop the 2 bombs before an invasion. We'd have to nuke America if we wanted to start killing terrorists. Are you prepared for that?

I'm certain that the Geneva Convention was scrupulously followed! Shooting someone in the back two times is OKAY as long as you say, "May I" Furthermore it states quite succinctly in section 69 that all female combatants are to be raped and otherwise physically abused!

SARCASAM ALERT!!!!

I was listening to O'Reilly today and some dimbulb "Rat" was goin' on and on about the Abu Grahib "torture" and the Geneva convention. I got out of the service in '73 but I do remember some of my training. You only have to provide "Name, Rank, and Cereal number!" lacking the rank, uniform and Geneva Convention status as a combatant you can be considered a spy or saboteur! In the movie, "The Great Escape" the SS machine guns the the captured escapees because they were traveling in costumes that were made over uniforms but the SS didn't read it that way. when Steve McQueens character returns to the camp and is being sent to the cooler he is told of the German atrocity.

BTAIM, I would suggest that a court be established and all detainees will be questioned. should they prove to be uncooperative they would be tried and convicted, as spies, in accordance with the Geneva convention. The world press and the other detainees would then witness the immediate hanging! I wonder how long this will go on before we see some cooperation.

My thoughts exactly.

American taken POW, held and executed by being shot in the back, twice. "Ho, hum"

Iraqi taken prisoner and photographed with panties on his head.
"SCANDAL OF THE CENTURY!!"

yes, thats a great idea, im sure it will solve all our problems. we clearly arent killing enough innocent people inadvertantly, lets do it deliberately!

the reason why our leaders arent using wmd's against civilian populations in an indiscriminate 'fear campaign' is because they are a lot smarter than the people suggesting it. 'nuke em all' is a small-minded solution to REAL PROBLEMS. the cost of such an act would far exceed its benefits. theres a BIG difference between iraq and ww2.

I did, and I noticed that.

For the spokesman, "kill" was either sloppy, pc, or neutral. For the AP, it was a hook to hang their liberal, leftist slant on. The press never fails to put moralizing, "aren't the right evil" spin on everything. This is just a case where they stood on the side lines. Like the Church Lady character from Saturday Night Live used to say, "Isn't that special."

"...places so hot in Japan from the atomic bombs dropped there that nothing will ever grow or be built on the bomb sites."

This is not true.

There is a park built at the epicenter of the Hiroshima explosion. There are trees, grass, and other park stuff all around. Thousands of people visit there every day.

Except for the memorials and things kept in remembrance there is no way to tell that an atomic bomb was ever dropped on Hiroshima.

There is also stuff growing around the Trinity Test Site at White Sands in NM. People also regularly visit there too.

Or blame Jessica Lynch for his murder, when that man fought to his death to save what was left of the 507th convoy.

I still remember Brokaw's "serious anchorman breathy " tone of voice while he narrated the "exclusive" NBC attained video of Lori Piestawa's dying gasps in a once shown and never repeated, film footage of an unconscious Jessica and Lori, in side by side cots, roughly propped up for propaganda purposes, by enemy hands.

Does anyone wonder if the media has footage of this mans murder, and probable corpse desecration, but chooses not to show it?
I mean they got the video's of Jessica and Lori.Does anyone think there are videos of what they did to our men?
Besides me, I mean.
