Same-sex couples fight state over birth certificates

RICHMOND — Three same-sex couples are asking the Virginia Supreme Court for permission to obtain birth certificates for their adopted children that list both partners as the parents.
The plaintiffs live in Maryland, New York and Pennsylvania, where same-sex couples are allowed to adopt children. Virginia prohibits such adoptions, although some individuals who are gay have been permitted to adopt.
Because the children were born in Virginia, the couples applied to the state’s Department of Vital Records for birth certificates. A Richmond judge upheld the agency’s refusal to include both partners’ names on the certificates.
The couples are appealing that decision.
The couples are being represented by the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia and two private law firms in Washington, D.C. They argue that the state’s policy on birth certificates discriminates among adoptive parents.
Tim Murtaugh, spokesman for Attorney General Jerry W. Kilgore, said the state also does not allow unmarried heterosexual couples to be listed together as parents on birth certificates for adoptions.
Kilgore’s office is defending the state’s policy on birth certificates.
ACLU attorneys said the state agency typically does not require heterosexual couples to provide proof of marriage when they request a birth certificate.
The case is unrelated to a new Virginia law that takes effect July 1 and will ban civil unions or other partnerships between same-sex couples . Kent Willis, executive director of the ACLU of Virginia, said his organization also is planning to challenge that law.
...and they complain about "creationists" ignoring biology and science. Wow.
10th Amendment -- who cares?
Wait a minute, back up, can adoptive parents actually get a new birth certificate that has their names as biological parents? I didn't know this, just struck me as strange, I mean, what about medical histories, etc.? Call me clueless...

Another irrational and utterly selfish and narcissistic example of "gay" rights idiots caring only about their sexual "identity" and nothing about reality, truth, or a kid who will have two women or two men listed as mother and father on his birth certificate.
Unbelievable cr*p. I am really getting fed up. The homo-agenda must be stopped and rolled back.
