One of the best journalist/authors we've had in this country. Kind of a forerunner to P.J. O'Rourke. "Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail" is a blast, sort of a "Road to the White House" with a wild bent and some insane insight.
Sad when my old favs start mouthing off. He should have just let his work speak for itself and shut up thereafter.
That is so offensive to people who truly suffered and died at Hitler's hands.
Everyone in Aspen is also aware of the former Gonzo journalist's habit of throwing flares and other fireworks into packed barrooms after the bar tenders ejected him for acting out.
Most people in Aspen consider him a pain in the ass who just happens to be part of the local color.
Sure, but the issue isn't whether it's more apropos - the issue is whether people can search for the article under its original title, and thus avoid posting it multiple times.
If you want to editorialize on an article in the title, you can do so by following the title with a comment in parentheses or brackets; for example:
Let's go to the Olympics! [Drug Addled, Hunter S. Thompson blows a gasket]
panem et circenses . . .
#1 - Who the hell is Hunter S. Thompson?
#2 - Why the hell should I care what he thinks, anyway?
Gotcha... sorry, newbie mistake I guess.
Reminder...check the thread before posting.
No worries. Welcome to FR - you'll like it here.
"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon." - HST
I already do... except I'm now behind in my coding!
This is a link to the story of "The Man Without a Country", and the sentence I would wish on all who disdain our country this day:

Only the brain dead ever classed Hunter as a libertarian.
I doubt he's ever given a serious thought to the source of our freedoms, or to the real principles behind them.
Witty guy though & a great writer, with a particular gift for exposing phony hypocrisy. -- Thus,-- it's obvious why you scorn him, Jackson.
I sure hope not . . . that's bat country!`
You used to be funny. You used to be cool. Now you are just used up and your creativity well ran dry.
Vandalizing a mailbox and the subsequent FBI interview gave you a taste in the 50's. Maybe it's time you vandalized the bedpan room and tasted the nursing home cooking.
AMF HST
So you think he's a libertarian. Cool.
I know, speaking from the brain waving functioning side of the house, he does tout many lp themes.
Sounds like HST got into the ether!
Thompson was a very good writer who took way too many drugs.
