Scalia Praises Italian Troops in Iraq

BOSTON - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was honored by an Italian-American organization and praised the troops from Italy that are fighting with Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"It has stood witness in Iraq and not been frightened off by a bombing," Scalia said of Italy in brief remarks Saturday.

Scalia, the first Italian-American U.S. Supreme Court justice, said his son also was serving in Iraq as an infantry captain.

The justice was inducted into the National Italian American Foundation's hall of fame at the group's first New England gala. The NIAF is a Washington-based nonprofit, nonpartisan group that promotes scholarship and U.S.-Italian relations.

Scalia said having an attachment to another country enriches the American experience. He told the largely Italian American group that his father, S. Eugene Scalia, emigrated from Italy at 15, became a professor of romance languages and still valued his heritage.

"I think all Americans would love their country if they had to live abroad for a while," Scalia said.

Italy has been one of our most reliable Allies in Europe. They are feeling the pressure of islamic immigration and instead of feeding people the "Religion of Peace" crap, the Italian government is pretty frank about the inevitability that European civilization will be destroyed unless the hoarde of muslim savages is brought under control.

I'm not sure of the propriety of a SCOTUS issuing a political statement (it is really), but I think his best statement here was the last....

"I think all Americans would love their country if they had to live abroad for a while"

many "conservatives" on here need to think about that line.
