SACRAMENTO -- With the nation's first legal gay nuptials nearly a week old, former presidential candidate Alan Keyes urged hundreds of gay marriage opponents at the state Capitol on Saturday to fight to limit the institution to straight couples only.
The purpose of marriage is to produce children, something homosexuals are physically incapable of, said Keyes, who ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination in 2000.
"To say it's between a man and a woman doesn't discriminate against same-sex couples anymore than it would be discrimination for the government to say I can't offer to fly people to the moon without benefit of a rocket ship," Keyes said. "And being as how I'm not physically equipped to fly to the moon, telling me I can't carry passengers there is not discrimination, it's common sense."
The crowd of fewer than 500 cheered loudly as Keyes and more than a dozen speakers denounced the court-ordered gay marriages that legally began Monday in Massachusetts. At one point, Gary Bauer, another Republican who sought the Republican nomination four years ago, spoke to the crowd by a cell phone held up to a microphone.
Many in the crowd wore T-shirts touting marriage for men and women only and others pumped signs in the air with such slogans as "Stop Pervert Marriage" and "Bar Homo Hitchin."
Geoffrey Kors, executive director of Equality California, a statewide gay rights lobbying group, said that with the first state-sanctioned marriages in Massachusetts, it was clear opponents of same-sex marriage are losing ground.
"They are beside themselves," Kors said. "They don't understand why the public isn't in an uproar over Massachusetts, and the reason is that America has now seen that all the harm that they claimed would befall the country if same-sex marriage were allowed hasn't happened."
Speakers and demonstrators spoke of a silent majority opposed to gay marriage and acknowledged they need to motivate them to speak out.
Benjamin Lopez, a lobbyist for the Traditional Values Coalition, sounded the wake-up call.
"Let's push this issue back into the closet where it belongs," he shouted.
What did they think would happen right off the bat? Are they worried about something--like what God will do to them?
This article could not be written more leftist.
It assumes a default position that homosexual marriage is good.
It bashes "fewer than 500" when pro homo groups generate puny numbers but are rarely identified.
My thoughts exactly.
The very use of the term "gay marriage" as something being 'opposed' is a bias in favor of the homosexual agenda.
Some of us consider marriage as between a man and a woman. So "gay marriage" is an oxymoron.
We wouldnt even consider 1 man and 4 women a 'marriage' we'd call it another name -polygamy.
there may be a name we need to distinguish 'gay marriage' from marriage as defined since the Justinian law of 500AD and before as between 1 man and 1 woman.
Let us call the homosexual man/man coupling marriage possibility - sodogamy.
Then we are really asking the question:
Should we extend legal forms of marriage from monogamy to sodogamy?
And if we are to extend it there, what basis stops it from getting extended to polygamy? incest? etc?
"Gays" versus "straights," as if media or government were disinterested arbiters of a battle between two equally justified and opposing "sides." It's spin before they say bet to a single word in the body of the article.
I'll post pics when I get a chance.

"The homosexual movement has a history of trying to claw its way into places its agenda doesnt belong, not for the betterment of mankind, but simply to legitimize and normalize perverse behavior. This is apparent in the all-too-common need of homosexuals to declare their sexuality rather than simply do the job they sign on to do.
This is extremely detrimental - first, it creates conflict with others as most believe homosexuality to be wrong, and it shows that the full efforts of the employed homosexual are not going towards performing the task at hand but largely to declaring their lifestyle. When it comes to serious concerns such as the Church, schools, and the Boy Scouts that involve our children, we cant take the risk of giving them this power to destroy the values we as parents try to instill, nor can we put our countrys welfare at stake by turning these pivotal foundational institutions and our military into homosexual social experiments.
The homosexual movement is marked by two major tendencies: the tendency to continually infiltrate all good aspects of society; and once they have achieved that, the tendency to destroy this good. Public education, the Boy Scouts, the military, and now the Catholic Church have been targeted, and all have been hurt by the effects of homosexuality. The media and the Church must break its silence towards this enemy. If they do not, the people themselves must rise up and expose it..."

It's not as if the full consequences of this would be felt right away. It's analogous to asserting that one does not feel sick yet despite already contracting a virus. It's just a mater of time before one would feel the effects.
I have always found it rather interesting how many of the same people who champion a pollution free environment tend to support things (just as gay marriage) which pollute the spiritual environment.
Regardless of ones personal or religious beliefs on the matter: the effects of gay marriage will only have deleterious effects on society & hasten the demise of the traditional family as well as contribute to spiritual pollution & corruption.
