Ax the Tax blasts use of taxdollars to defend Dyer in illegal ballot fraud lawsuit... news release distributed by City of Orlando violates Florida Law

Lauren Hames, Public Information Officer for the Mayor's Office violated Florida Law today by using tax dollars in issuing a news release that supports Buddy Dyer's defense in the ongoing election fraud case currently before Judge Theotis Bronson.

"Buddy Dyer is violating the laws of the State of Florida in continuing his use of taxdollars to defend his losing battle in circuit court against the allegations of voter fraud," stated Doug Guetzloe, Chairman of Ax the Tax. "Both Florida law and the Attorney General have strict prohibitions against the use of tax dollars to defend candidates involved in election contest court battles. To send out misleading and untruthful news releases using tax dollars is particularly appalling," Guetzloe stated.

A news release was distributed today by the Mayor's Office of Communications that contained untruthful information concerning a pending lawsuit against Dyer and City Commissioner Ernest Page.

The City of Orlando has also retained outside counsel, King & Blackwell to support Dyer in the legal challenge. This unauthorized use of tax dollars is also improper and illegal.

The motion for summary judgment comes on the heels of prior Dyer motions to dismiss the election contest, all denied by Judge Bronson, not once but twice.

The statements contained within the news release are nothing but propaganda and untrue statements.

"Statements like "The canvassing board's motion could bring final resolution to the 2004 city election process" and "Given the number of affidavits and Mayor Dyer's margin of victory over the 50% mark, with respect to count i of the complaint, plaintiffs cannot show that there were a sufficient number of illegal voters received to change the outcome of the election as required by the election contest" are both untrue statements. Judge Bronson's ruling clearly states that if ANY ballots are shown to be fraudulent then a run-off election will be ordered. The comments in the Dyer news release are not in quotes and are presented as fact. In actuality they are nothing but lies," Guetzloe concluded.

In other news, investigators and agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement yesterday (5/20/04) seized the tainted absentee ballots from the Supervisor of Elections office, indicating the seriousness of the ongoing criminal investigation into the fraudulent absentee ballot allegations and the tainted Orlando Mayoral Election.

This action belies Mr. Dyer's assertion that there is no criminal ongoing criminal investigation.

Ax the Tax will file complaints with the FDLE and the Attorney General's office against Dyer in the continued illegal use of tax dollars in his legal defense.
