Same-sex marriage debuts May 17 (MA)

While many are marking their calendars for weddings this summer, few will forget one date: May 17.

ThatÕs the day on which the Commonwealth of Massachusetts must begin granting marriage licenses to Massachusetts couples of the same sex, as it has for those of the opposite sex for hundreds of years.

And though only six months separate the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision of November 18, 2003 from May 17, 2004, for many area couples, town and state officials, and clergy, those months have seemed agonizingly long.

And full.

That SJC decision has been followed by a flurry of activity on the part of lawmakers and activists on both sides of an issue with very few on the fence.

In the heart of the commonwealth, no less than anywhere else in the state, residents and those who represent them face the challenge of change brought about by that decision.

State Representatives Lew Evangelidis (R-Holden) and Bob Spellane (D-Worcester) represent adjoining towns and sometimes find themselves on the same side in bipartisan efforts to represent Wachusett district concerns.

I think possibly a big effect when gay couples try to have their marriages recognized in states like Missouri or PA...

Or they try it here in the South.

Does anyone know if the Gaystapo has plans to force this issue as a Democrat platform plank at the convention?

Provincetown where the pilgrims first landed will become the focal point for America's doom.
On May 18th we officially become SODOM and GOMORRAH. I doubt that GOD is pleased.

They might not have to, if their favorite branch (the judiciary) continues to come through for them. A federal judge in Boston heard argument the MA SJC had overstepped its bounds. His decision came in last night: the SJC has the right to interpret the meaning of "marriage" in the MA constitution. The First Circuit has apparently agreed to hear an expedited appeal. So it may end up being fast-tracked to the USC. Guess which way they'll go.

Hasn't this already created a huge political backlash in the state of Massachusetts?

I still remember how Gov. Dean's craven action with regard to civil unions caused a huge political wipe-out in the ensuing elections that year.

But Boston was picked as the Democrat's convention site by Terry McAuliffe. I thought he was picked to head the DNC because of his politically savvy. No?

I hope gays from all over the country flock to Massachusetts, get married, return home and demand recognition. Should bolster Bush's numbers quickly.

Homosexual Agenda Ping - Massachusetts is swirling down the drain, or alternatively, one could say that it is overdone, stick a fork in it, toss in the compost, etc.

It'll be verrry interesting to see how this plays out. If anyone is from MA and hears or knows any reactions to this abomination being forced on everyone, let us know! Perfect opportunity for civil disobedience, standing up for right and truth in the midst of government mandated deviance-promotion.

Destruction of marriage and family - Massachusetts style.

Let me know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.
