My Grandfather fought in the Civil War, as well as my G-Grandfather.
My Grandfather had my Dad at age 72 - that's why I'm only one generation away from the war.

Good that you know. My grandparents are only one generation removed but until I did the research I don't think either one of them knew.

Well that answers that.
Where's your 15 year old been living?
Up north?

One of the jokes in Alabama's capitol (whenever a newbie suggests new social spending) is that we're still paying for that war (of Northern Agression).
The good widow still receives her Alabama civil war pension, after all.

Prayers for Ms. Alberta. I met her at Remembrance Day in Gettysburg a couple of years ago - she is one feisty lady!
On the topic of Real Sons and Real Daughters, I am not sure if the SCV or UDC have the ability to come up with a list or even a number. IIRC, we have one Real Son in the Maryland Division, SCV.

Who says the South didn't rise again? That's why they call it Dixie.

Here in Decatur, Alabama in my Church there is a REAL Daughter of the Confederacy (Mrs. Mildred Matthews). She is 96 years old and still going strong. Her father I believe, was a Corporal in the CSA Infantry and married her mother when he was in his sixties.
She tells some of the best stories that that she heard him tell about the war.

That's phenomenal. A lot of my family members have lived for what I consider a long time. For instance, my Uncle Wilbur in Iowa is 97. Aunt Maude is 103. My Great Grandmother is going to be 101 in December. They have some interesting stories.

We should get all of them to write down their stories. Once in print, they can be passed down without added changes or interpretation "or editing".
To anyone posting on this thread, I encourage the same thing.
Write down those stories NOW!

I sure hope someone is writing down her stories or having her speak into a tape recorder.
Once she goes, those stories go with her!
Just a thought.

The UDC has done a story on her every year for the last 4-5 years now.
I have tried to get her family to write her stories up and make a book from them, but her family does not want the publicity. They are a well to do family here in Decatur, Al and afraid of what the ACLU and Jessie Jackson's horde might do to their business's.
I plan to try again to get her to let me put them together in a book.
Have a Great Weekend!
