IIRC, the military held him because they thought he could be endangered.
His father threatened to sue so they let him go.
I honestly can't blame his father for his actions - even though by Salon's apparent standards that puts him to blame.

Who are the bloggers?

your original list from CANSWAR had the Michael Berg name. We all say it and its recorded.
Why Canswer is now censoring their own signatories is beyond me but hey....whats new.
GOOD JOB DOUG and frankly I am sorry the the Sr. Berg wasnt more like his son.

I am at a loss to connect the dots they try to connect...If anything, their assertion should be it would have protected him, even though Nick was not a part of that list.

Let me see if I have this right:
The "supposedly radical Islamic group" is hanging around Free Republic.com, just to see what's happening.
They notice this list of
ANTI-war people through a link here.
And they managed to FIND a SON of one of them in Iraq.
And the MURDERED him there.
Because his father was ...... against the war.
Is that believable to anyone?

Well, let's try this one. If the name was on an otherwise publicly available list why would we attribute Iraqi knowledge of that name to a reprint on FreeRepublic? How about attributing it to the original publicly available list, and to the fact that Mr. Berg and the company were in fact active in ANSWER?
Also, I gather there is no evidence that some Iraqi unit actually uses the American FreeRepublic chat site as the source of its intel for detaining Americans found in a war zone.

The official story of his gruesome murder has many dubious aspects, not least the real reason why Iraqi police detained the young man at a checkpoint. New research by BreakForNews has uncovered a plausible explanation. And yet, no explanation, plausible or otherwise, follows. Perhaps even the esteemed Ms. Dunne lacks the chuztpah to actually express what she so slyly insinuates.
If this is the kind of twaddle that salon finds worthwhile, no wonder it sucks so bad.
To: doug from upland
The big question for the reporter is this: which is easier to believe, that A.N.S.W.E.R. redacted their list, or that you were prescient enough MARCH to post Berg's fathers name knowing it would endanger him in MAY.
