Another university professor murdered

Baghdad, Iraq Press, May 11, 2004 – The body of a missing university professor has been found in the outskirts of Baghdad.

Dr. Abdulsamia al-Janabi was abducted following a row at Mustansiriya University over the distribution of leaflets and placards in the campus.

Janabi was dean of the Science College at the University and one of the country’s top scientists.

He wanted to distance his college from the current political wrangling in the country.

University campuses in Iraq have turned into arenas for the various political factions to propagate their ideas.

Janabi ordered all political placards removed from walls and asked his students to stay away from politics while in the campus.

Students belonging to Shiite groups objected to the decision and held a sit-in in protest.

The students had splashed university walls with placards to commemorate a religious festival.

A few days later Janabi disappeared.

His body was found with the head chopped off in Baghdad outskirts.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is trying to keep campuses away from politics but to no avail.

Ministry sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, say about 200 university professors have been killed since the collapse of the former regime a year ago.

My opinion is that there is a wide-spread psychosis in many Muslim areas.......I hesitate to only limit it to Arabs...

Looks like the occupation policy is seriously faulty. Islamism flourishes. Decent people get their heads chopped off...

I'd love to see some syllabi from Iraqi postsecondary education. Seems improbable that their students would be exposed to the full range of viewpoints on political, religious, historical, and other issues. Marketplace of ideas?

Islam cannot tolerate rational intelligent people. No wonder Muslim culture hasn't made any progress since its founding.

What the hell is with these people??? How in the world can you have stability and progress when you decapitate people for trying to teach?

That body is probably the professor's, not Nick Berg's.

The one photo that you are using/showing, is probably the dead university prof. in the above story.

With all the firearms in Iraq, one would think that one could protect oneself from kidnapping like this. Maybe not.

I try to be real careful as to what I post as being a fact. My integrity as well as the integrity of this forum is of the utmost importance. There has to be somewhere you can go for the truth, good or bad. I cringe when some posters go off half cocked stating info that has not been proved or verified. This is a world wide forum and should be kept to the highest standards.

We are pretty much at the mercy of the quality of information, and then, how well people read it, and then what they will see or not see of the facts.

I could not figure out the "logic" of the terrorists' choosing to put the socks back on Nick's body, and actually, from the one photo, the socks did not look like they'd ever been removed.

That did not jive with the photo of him in the orange jumpsuit-looking garment, where is not wearing socks.

That was one clue.

I'm glad I found your remarks, elsewhere, that reminded me of the professor.

I'm sorry to see that the loss of the professor, has not ranked up their with the loss of Nick Berg, in our media.

I'd bet that the murders connect directly to the perps, and because of the two occurring in tandem, the evidence should be more, with which to get the bad guys.

The islamic world is beyond redemption. FUBAR. No matter if 51% want freedom and democracy, even 5% who are stone killers for allah will always be able to keep the majority in terror.
