SADDAM Hussein had the ability to unleash biological and chemical weapons "at short notice" on foreign nations, according to a potentially explosive new report by inspectors.
The leaked document, written by Charles Duelfer, the new director of the Iraq Survey group, concludes that hard evidence does exist that Saddam had the ability to wreak terror with the weaponry.
Furthermore, there was evidence that he was plotting to expand his facilities last year, prior to the invasion of British and American troops.

Week after week after week after week. Lie after lie after lie after lie. I guess the Kerry October surprise doomsday team needs to get ready to swing into action.

Yea, but that's no reason to take preemptive action.
We're Americans, we are supposed to wait until after Saddam acquired this capability and used it on us.

Even the Kay report detailed that there were chem and bio weapon production facilities found. I've never understood why this doesn't connect with people.
It's not really the stockpiles that matter, it's the ability to produce that mattered. This just doesn't seem like rocket science (so to speak) to me.

Even Blix said you had to look at dual-purpose factories.
As far as the stockpiles. These are "NOT HUGE SPACETAKERS". A barrel here, a barrel there. But the ability to make "fresh" stuff efficiently and quickly seems the best way to go and that was the direction Saddam was taking. It prevents internal destruction. (Saddam did have a few enemies in Iraq).
There was a hint of this report a week about a week ago but no date of a report release.

To me, it was sufficient that one of Sadaam's sons told a scientist to hide centrifuges in his yard so Iraq could reconstitute its nuke program once the U.N. left. What more do you need to demonstrate that Iraq planned on fooling the U.N. and building an atom bomb?

But the ability to make "fresh" stuff efficiently and quickly seems the best way to go and that was the direction Saddam was taking. 'zactly. A chem/bio lab is functionally not a lot different from a meth lab. In the county I live in, we have a pretty hard time finding them all. It doesn't mean they aren't there.
The hubbub over "stockpiles" is really overblown and misguided. Chemical and Bio stockpiled weapons are a DECIDEDLY NONTRIVIAL logistics problem. They have shelf life issues... and really serious storage, security and maintenance issues. Even for a pathetic despot like Saddam, they're not something that you really want to have a lot of, in any one place at any one time. Really really bad things can happen in such storage facilities, even to evil dictators like Saddam.
It's the capacity and inclination to create and promulgate weapons that made Saddam someone worth taking out. Game over.

I wonder when it will be released and also will the CIA actually declassify parts of it?
