The Paine money comes mostly from General Paine, who was the youngest general in the Civil War and served as governor of New Orleans. He was involved in railroad mergers. Two of his sons were the Paines who won the Olympic rifle and pistol events back in the early 20th century and were portrayed in that movie about the Olympics.
