God bless him. And thanks to Sports Illustrated for a great cover. They don't often do the right thing, but they did this time.

2nd Rangers are having a public ceremony for Tillman in San Jose next week I believe..
To: The G Man
Or Lance Armstrong. I think Pat should get a special sportsman award seperate from everyone else.
He's up there with Nile Kinnick..

I don't see how he could be sportsman of the year since he didn't play sports this year. It would make sense to name the award after Tillman, but not give it to him.

Impossible to look at that without welling up. He belongs to the ages, and he will live on as a hero in the heart of every American patriot.

Pat strived at anonymity. He wanted to be the hero in the background.
The fact that we know who he was and what he stood for is a testament to those who have been more successful at achieving anonymity.
We all should be grateful for the the many unknowns that fight and die for the cause of freedom. Unknown but to God and their families.
We have our freedoms for men such as these. Hero is too small a word for them.
