EU to reward Turks after Cyprus vote

A big problem with these folks is that they cannot understand why anyone would be upset at a Muslim group for any reason other than terrorism.

That one might be pleased at the small effort Turkey makes in the war on terror is apparently supposed to make you completely overlook the illegality of their role in the Cyprus situation, the continuing oppression of the Phanar, the unrepetent multiple times genocidal history of Turkey in the past century, and the ungoing crime against humanity in Kurdistan.

That Turkey has murdered, looted, and expelled 5 million people in the past 100 years is apparently wiped completely clean because they make some small token effort against Al Qaeda (mostly for reasons of their own regime survival against the large fundementalist presence in Turkey).

If Turkey really wished to convince us that it now wants to join Western Civilization after 1000 years, there are any number of steps that could be taken to do so, starting with complete religious liberty for the Patriarch of Constantinople and his Church. That they will not take such a small and harmless step is very telling. All it requires is the issuance of a decree granting the Church freedom of action.

You obviously know better than this. The Swiss Civil Code has more influence on contemporary Turkey than the Sharia. Anyone who wants to bring Islamic law back to Turkey gets stepped on toot goddamned sweet.

This is a perfect example of exactly what I was getting at in my last post. You seem to lack the comprehension that a Muslim could act in a barbaric manner in any way except by following Sharia.

It simply ain't so, and all you need to do is talk to a Greek, Armenian, or Assyrian formerly living in what is now Turkey, or a Kurd currently under violent opression from their "Muslim Brothers".

Turkey is a living breath poster child for the violation of numerous basic civil rights.

Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah 1915? Blah! blah blah. Blah blah Treaty of Lausanne? Blah blah blah!

These routine examples of statistical ledgerdemain and loose leaf history books are so routine as to be predictable down to the smaller details.

As I have noted elsewhere, the only things Turks and Greeks should really argue about are yacht design, soccer, and recipes. I mean, really, aren't those subjects enough for a lifetime of bickering?

There is one troubling thing going on in Turkish Cyprus that ought to be addressed. That is, the Turkish Cypriot authorities are "selling" the homes and farms of displaced Greek Cypriots to all comers, particularly summer-home buyers from the UK, without the permission of, or compensation to, to the rightful owners. Many of these properties have been in one family for many hundreds of years, so there is really no question of true ownership.

As far as I know, there is no similar policy on the Greek Cypriot side of the island in regard to property formerly owned by Turkish Cypriots.

In regard to the vote, the Greek Cypriots are having relatively good economic times, and the Turkish Cypriots are hurting big time. So I take the vote as an "in-your-face" move!
