Four Christians Released from Prison; All Charges Dropped

Four Christian university students arrested in the Sinai in January for the possession of Christian materials were released on 3 April.

The young men, Peter Kamel, Ishak Yessa, John Fokha, and Andrew Saeed, were on a trip to the Sinai region.

They had with them their Bibles and various Christian tapes, which the Naweeba district police confiscated when they were arrested in their rooms at a hotel in the resort of Sharm El-Sheik.

However, none of these materials were illegal and there was nothing found in their possession which would have justified their arrest.

They were charged with disturbing the national unity and threatening the social peace, a broad and vague charge commonly used in Egypt.

Their detention was extended several times, with no trial date set.

However, all charges against them have now been dropped.

Interesting... in the USA students are arrested for possesion of Marihuana, while in Egypt they arrest them for possesion of Bibles. Islamic societies are truly pathetic.

It's not uncommon to arrest Americans for carrying any sort of Christian material or symbols. They knew, or should have known, the rules so no sympathy here.

Yes, I know... that's very disturbing, especially if we take into consderation that Egypt is supposed to be an "ally" of the US. Mohammedans are treated with respect and allowed to spread their nonsense in the USA, but Christians are treated like scum in Mohammedan nations... and President Bush has the guts to call Islam a "Religion of Peace".

No sympathy? How about we start arresting muslims for wearing head scarves and carrying copies of the koran?

I would never allow myself, nor anyone else I know, to visit a country like this.

Eygpt is just another third world Islamist compost heap. All such stone age Islamists are truly disgusting peoples.

...and I feel very sorry for the Coptic minority that has to put up with the Mohammedan harassment on a daily basis.

I didn't say I approved of the arrests. I said they knew the rules. When in Rome ...

These four Christians were not arrested for violating any "rule", as evidenced by their release. And even if they were, what of it? "No sympathy" for them means no sympathy for the first martys of the Church, not to mention millions of 20th century Christians martyred by Nazis and Communists. It seems your god is the law of evil men. I doubt that it will save you, or even eat you last.

Interesting how you see nothing wrong with mind altering drugs and compare it to the Bible. I say something else is pathetic in your statement ... .

Don't read too much into my statement. I was just trying to point out the fact that in the USA people get arrested for breaking the law, while in Egypt people get arrested for believing in a different god.

And no, I am not a pot-smoker.

Thanks. I apologize for reading too much into that.

I'm just tired of people advocating that crap.
