I agree. However, I do find it pretentious of Gibson that he thinks he can truly depict the suffering of the Lord.

I viewed the movie and, although I do not agree with the critics concerning antisemitism and high violence, I questioned can we truly know what Jesus suffered just by watching a production. I concluded, out of respect and ultimate love for the Lord, that a depiction should not be attempted.

I believe his suffering is beyond human comprehension and not something which belongs on the big screen.

It is a divine mystery.

This is not Christianity. This is not a message anyone needs.

1 Corinthians 1

22 For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;
23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,
24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

1 Corinthians 2

1 And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.

You make a good point. I'm sure that if we could all jump in a time machine and go back to that Friday, we'd all be devastated by the reality of what took place...but I would love to stick around until the following Sunday morning.

One of my favorite Christian teachers likes to say, "The nails in the cross hurt; but the true suffering was the separation Jesus experienced from His Father...." In God's timing, a thousand years is but a day, and second is like an eternity. We don't know and can never know the internal suffering of Christ, being separated from the Father because He became sin for us, but even if it lasted only for a second, it was excruciating, and it has an impact for eternity.

Mark Morford is a woman?

Actually Morford is a Prick/Prickorator. That's a jackass pretending to be a journalist pretending to be a humorist. A real lose/lose situation.

Thanks for the ping, presidio9!

HOGWASH.

And the title alone causes me to wholesale question the author's discernment if not their belief.

God's Holy Spirit is mightily using this movie and will continue to.

Argue against God's doing at your own risk.

sheesh.

The PASSION OF THE CHRIST was not horribly vivid

ENOUGH

to be 100% accurate.

Nevertheless,

I felt that given Christ's loving me enough to pay such a sacrifice,

the least I could do was to see the best representation in the last 2,000 years.

I've often felt but somewhat wondered if I'd have had the pluck to stay at The Cross like Mary and John.

I like to think that the further identification with my Lord fostered by, during watching this film might indicate that I might have had that much pluck, BY HIS GRACE.

I encourage one and all to see it as many times as they feel led to see it. Let it burn it's images into each heart, mind, soul, spirit. Let us not forget one drop of His Precious Blood, one atomic particle of His Precious torn flesh.

He did it for each of us.

Is watching in awe such a terrible price for us to pay in respect and gratitude?

I'm touched. I feel like, upon her release from rehab, she wrote this article just for me.

I see I don't have to ping you to this.

Agreed on all points. What really got me was this:

I have seen the movie. I have endured the spectacle so you don't have to.

Christianity not being my religion, it took me a second to realize who Missy Morford was comparing him her ???self to. When I understood...as we say in South Car'lina, shee-he-yit!

Thanks for the ping, presidio9!

Buddha's teachings include moral restraint of all kinds including ideally celibacy, or chaste marriage, and no use of intoxicants, as well as being vegetrian. Morford's as Buddhist as my cats. Actually, they're more in tune with the eternal truth that s/he is .

What a sick freak.

7) The answer is, if I recall, about eight. The question is: How many times can you watch Mel's whipped, blended, frapped, pureed Jesus, his body rife with so many oozing crimson gouges it looks like some decimated animal you ran over with your car, twice, with snow tires -- how many times can you watch Jesus fall to the hard gravel ground with a long, low moan in terrible blood-drenched slow motion without, finally, stifling a laugh?

This is a women that is willfully spiritually blind. Miss Morford, I hope you read this tonight, as I will pray for your soul.

"What's that supposed to mean? In fact, they weren't Roman citizens, at least most of them."

I meant that the Jews were ruled by the Romans at the time, and that some Jewish lawyers benefitted in some ways from sucking up to the Romans.

" But, I suppose you were just trying to make some kind of snide anti-Catholic remark..."

That's an interesting reaction. I don't agree with Catholicism, and that's my right in the USA, so far. That could change, though, with so many Protestants becoming so Catholic in this country.
