There are times when I think that some on the left would like to provoke a civil war. Some of them feel that their best chance for permanent power is a political and governmental collapse of the US. They haven't made as much progress on this as they have in collapsing the culture, but this undertone is very clear at times.

A few decades after gay marriage has become the law of the land (and it probably will,
given the limp response of even conservative churches in support of the
proposed constitutional amendment)...
and every child in public school will be "totally tolerant",
the percentage of people even holding onto their Bibles will be shrinking
into insignificance.
