I have studied the vase, and I disagree with the opinion stated above.
The Vase is plainly Liz and Dick Burton. The snake is an allegorical dichotomy to the cupid.

Thanks for posting this, even if some of the Phillistines seem not to appreciate it.
My only criticism is neither you nor the article; but in general: They so rarely use DECENT PHOTOS with the truly interesting articles...unless they can work in a politico mugging.
