Thanks for the Oklahoma ping. Major Parker and others like him are in my thoughts and prayers daily. Since the article doesn't mention it, do you know what his job is when his unit is not on active duty? Just curious, as it seems the tasks required of the Civil Affairs units are so varied that regular training would be tough to do without some connection to their civilian job.

Thanks for the PING. Great story considering it's printed in the World, I think it's amazing all the more. I hope he and his soldiers remain safe.

Major Parker is HOME!
Maj. Parker returned home this afternoon after 10 months in Afghanistan. The jedis and I had the honor of welcoming him home at the airport. Channel 6 News covered the homecoming, but I haven't seen it on the news yet.

Saw a special on this guy. He's making a difference. Please give him and his troops my thanks.

I just saw us on the news a few minutes ago.
The woman standing next to me (in front of the balloons) is Celeste, the woman who requested prayer at the beginning of this thread and is my best friend. The man next to her is her husband and Maj. Parker's brother.
The jedis and I sent care packages to him and also the Hobbit Hole sent him one of their knives.

:-)
It was a very emotional experience for me. Celeste wanted me to take the pictures and I had a real hard time! Got all choked up.
I guess there were a half-dozen other soldiers there with him, and I thanked them all for their service.
I only got to speak with him briefly, but Major Wes did say that the bandage scissors we sent him were extremely helpful!

Sitting cross-legged on the dirt floor of the mud-brick compound, across from the elders of the Haji Tuti, Parker has his M-16 within easy reach.
... half of my men did the work, while the other half were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armor. The officers posted themselves behind all the people of Judah who were building the wall. Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other, and each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked. - Nehemiah 4:16-18
