WASHINGTON -- Abandoning the "trust but verify" mantra of previous Republican administrations, President Bush is determined to reach an arms reduction deal with the Russians that would be sealed with a handshake and maybe a brief communique instead of a 1,000-page treaty such as those of the past.

The plan, which White House National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice discussed in Moscow this week, is raising the anxiety level among top military leaders in both the United States and Russia, who instinctively recoil at placing so much trust in nations that were their enemies for most of their lifetimes.

In just the first few months of his administration, George Bush worked to reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world. This is the work of a man that wants peace, not a warmonger as the left would like to label him.

By working to reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world, Bush was determined to lessen the Soviet threat and the capability of nukes from falling into the hands of rogue nations.

This NEVER gets brought up. Someone should bring it up. Maybe even the White House.
