Explosion Shakes Central Baghdad
Times Daily ^ | April 9, 2004 | Associated Press

A large explosion shook central Baghdad on Friday, and smoke was seen rising from near the Sheraton Hotel beside Firdos Square.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.

U.S. troops warned earlier in the day that followers of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr were planning possible bomb attacks near Firdos Square. Troops had imposed a curfew in the area.

Im with Bob Bevelaqua on this one. He says the media should ignore these non events. They're clearly an attempt by terrorists to grab headlines.

Did you hear David Lee Miller translate his producer's description of a "man size" hole to a "giant" hole? I just sent Fox an email and told them DLM is a drama queen who has lost all credibility. I also admonished them for continuing to report on this after Bob told them it was playing right into the terrorists hands.

This wench on FoxNews, just said "Huge Explosion". She should be fired. Major Bob was just on FoxNews explaining it was just a mortar round. There is a big difference between a "Huge Explosion" and a mortar round. This plays right into the objectives of terrorists.

Now Fox is showing a hole in the ground - 3' x 3' - that is HUGE. Oh, no, someone might fall into it and twist their ankle. We better get out of Iraq now. (sarcasm off)

Yes, I did...I thought I was the only one that caught that. When they went to the live feed of the 'hole', the reporter in the NY studio, Patti Ann Brown, seemed surprised that the hole they were showing was what all the fuss was about. She even questioned whether that they were showing the right 'hole'! FOX does seem to be making this seem much worse than it is. Having said that, thank God no one was injured.

Breaking News: Update!!! Upon closer inspection given a zoom-in on the suspected hole in the ground, the hole measures 3'2" x 3'3 1/4". This is almost as big as the hole in the ground that family lived in when I was a child.
