Hmmm....I wonder if the new boots for use w/ green utilities will be black suede. Also, my Navy unit wears green. I wonder if we're going to have to follow suit.

When I went into the Army, they were changing from brown boots to black boots.
I was issued a pair of each color. Also a dye kit to dye the brown boots black.

Slightly related, are those arctic Mickey Mouse boots I see for surplus sale particuarly good?

I remember my first pair of boots in MCRD Diego.. We soaked and beat the heck out of 'em to soften 'em up a bit.
I'd be curious to hear what any of our FR Marines think of their new suede boots.

Back, more than a few years, when I was a young Marine, the Corps had a boot (black) with kind of suede texture to the leather. This boot required a great deal of polishing in order to build up a base that would hold a shine. Fortunately, the combat boots I was issued were standard black leather that didn't require nearly the effort. The suede textured boots were phased out eventually ... but those that had them wore them with pride ... as it designated them as "salts". That meant you had been in the "Corps" for awhile.
