Fox Reports Clarke Transcript Other Networks Ignore

WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- The transcript of a White House briefing given by former counterterrorism advisor Richard Clarke in the Spring of 2002 was made public by Fox News on Wednesday. White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said that Clarke's statements contradict what he has written in a book released on Monday.

The briefing in 2002 was given on "background" which by agreement with the press is on the record but only attributable to "a senior White House official." McClellan said that the White House gave Fox News permission to put Richard Clarke's name to the remarks because "Mr. Clarke made assertions [in his book] that we have said are flat-out wrong. And it's important for the American people to have the facts."

He added, "Mr. Clarke, certainly decided on his own to go ahead and reveal conversations that were considered private previously."

Terry Moran of ABC News confronted the Press Secretary on the reason to "out" Clarke as the background briefer.

McClellan responded, "I disagree with the premise of your question, because it was Fox News who yesterday came to us and said they had a tape of this conversation with Mr. Clarke."

He continued, "We always listen to your request when you come to us and ask if something can be put on the record. And there are times when we are able to fulfill those requests."

McClellan reminded Moran, "In fact, after Fox News was able to air this, we reached out to other members of the media, including yourself, I believe, to let you know that you could go back and use this information on the record."

But the networks other than Fox made only passing references to the transcript, despite the fact that 9-11 Commissioner James R. Thompson directly asked Clarke which version of events was true.

More evidence that Bush is losing this unequal argument personified by Clarke.

They found a way to bring down Dubya, and there's no way in HELL these bastards are going to give the TRUTH any daylight on their programs!! This is what they were looking for and they found it in W ex staffer! Stupid W should have taken the Freepers advice and gotten rid of all the freakin employees from the KKKlintion adm. This is what you get when you play nice with the RAT whores!! Bipartisan my a$$! DC is NOT Texas, it's a hell hole were the rat demons rule with their puppets the lib whore media. I pray Clarke will pay DEARLY for his lies and distortions of this Administration!! I have this sick feeling that somehow KKKLinton was vindicated!! History books will protray the bastard as a saint! IT was all W fault, while for eight years bubba was having BJ in the oral office, W should have been looking for Al-Q!!IT'S ALL BUSH FAULT!(sarcasm off) :(
May the media lib whores go straight to HELL!! How in the world can we counter attack the media...PLEASE there has to be a way! Fox and the Internet is not ENOUGH! Seems that the emails we have sent to the clymers ABCBSNBCNN et.. haven't done the trick! They have chosen, by choice of course to BLIND themselves to the truth! ACTION is needed! I guess I'm disappointed and ANGRY that the CLARKE lies weren't pushed harder by the press whores this morning. Only the bashing of W's jokes from last night are headliners! Which by the way are being ridiculed and scrutinized! This guy can't do anything right in their sight. The Press are trying so hard to paint him as another ALborg!

How often do networks use "exclusive" items from other networks; say FNC using ABC, CBS exclusives? Seems to me they would naturally avoid such use for competitive reasons.

Even if so, that's still lazy journalism. They're supposed to objectively air all sides of the story. It shouldn't matter where the information came from as long as it is relevant and credibile.

I heard JIM ANGLE say yesterday that after they got the go ahead from the WH he then contacted ALL the other news reporters that were at the background briefing and told them it was OK to disclose what they had.

Lazy or not, it's the rule rather than the exception. When you criticize CBS, et al for not using a FNC "exclusive" - think of the last time FNC used footage from a CBS "exclusive". Goose & gander

Priceless!

O.K., so the five reporters there were Jim Angle, Terry Moran, two we have no clue about, and some 'chick' named 'Andrea'.....Hmmmmmm.....

The only UPI reporter I know is Pamela Hess, the Pentagon reporter. I was thinking of Mrs. Greenspan.

Well, FNC has been mentioning the 60 minutes Clarke interview an awful lot, and questioning aspects of it that the interviewer was too lazy to do a lexus nexus search on. It may not be footage per se, but it is being reported responsibly as a news item.
