In the small town where I lived when I attended College, there was an incident in which an armed criminal who was breaking into a home was shot and killed by the occupant.

In a queer twist of legal maneuvering, the homeowner was charged with manslaughter, because even though armed, the intruder wasn't quite through the window when he was shot, and fell outside.

Several weeks later, the local Sheriff came door to door and told us all "If you have to shoot someone breaking into your home, make sure to drag him inside BEFORE you call us"

England is getting so "civilized" they are in grave danger of becoming "uncivilized".

And they just can't figure out why their breaking/entering/murder rate is going up????!!!

Very bad advice. It's called "tampering with evidence", it's easily detected, and it will get you put away.

Far better to wait a few more seconds until the perp is actually inside the house before firing.

What's missing in this article is why English law considers lethal defense a crime. Defending ones life is not the question. The question is defending ones property under threat of death. In England today, defense of property by force is no longer protected by the courts. If a thief threatens to harm or kill you if you do not surrender your property - English courts expect you to do just that, surrender your property.
