Matt Reilly, also known as 'harpseal' on Free Republic, died on March 19, 2004.
His friend Eileen is making arrangements for a Memorial service at the local VA.
Matt was a former Navy SEAL, a keen businessman, a friend to his Walker Hound, and an accomplished sailor.
He was also my friend and my business partner. I can't barely see the keyboard through my tears. He will be missed greatly.

May the Lord's eternal light shine upon him.
We often disagreed on economics, but he was clearly a man of principle. We will miss him.
My sincere condolences.

My condolences, Laz. I'm sorry for the loss of your buddy and one of the best posters on FR.

I too loved that Yorktown sign off - how loyal he was to his country, his friends etc.
How proud we can be that he held FR in such high regard.

Oh no. I am SO sorry. My own uncle passed away just two days ago. If he was a saved Christian, no "Resting in Peace" for him. The Party has begun. I look forward to meeting him in person someday. Those who would understand the grief process and Christianity should read a book I just finished: "A Travel Guide to Heaven" by Anthony DeStefano is wonderful beyond words.

Pleas tell Matt's family that they are in my prayers.
I know he will be missed on this Forum.

Because Matt is dead, the only thing I can do that is constructive is to stay sober by any means necessary. Do that. Do that in harpseal's honor.
I am worried about you because I knew you had been fighting that thing, and this is just the sort of emotional blow that can set you back.
Get a friend you can trust to hang with you, keep yourself VERY busy, and take it one day at a time. Your idea of preventative treatment or counseling is a very good one.
I will be praying for you with all my might.

In January he told me that he was getting over his chemo treatments and was feeling better. Prayers for both of you.

I just now read this thread; I guess we don't really much know one another around here except maybe for a few, but somehow it seems we do.
I don't post much on the personal threads for I never know what to say, but if I had any words that could help you, you'd surely be welcome to them; come back and beat up on us some more like the Laz we know when you want, ok?

Because Matt is dead, the only thing I can do that is constructive is to stay sober by any means necessary. By any means necessary, yes this would be a fitting thing to do for a friend. I too enjoyed discussions (sometimes locking horns, always learning and growing) with Harpseal. Thank you for posting the info on his illness Trav. Take Care Laz.
