I definitely agree with you on the evil from both sides. Unfortunately, I see a concerted effort (in schools, also) to portray the Crusades as the only evil in this period.

Unfortunately this film endeavors to be politically correct. The Muslims are noble and righteous, and the Christians are evil and brutal. This viewpoint is getting old, IMO. What happened to the viewpoint of the Crusades that I remember from grade school in the 50's and high school in the 60's? They don't teach it that way anymore. The viewpoint was, it happened, there were battles, and the result was the introduction of Arabic numerals, concepts of medicine and astronomy into the European arena. None of this "the Crusaders were evil" nonsense.
