We have obtained a document discovered in Iraq from the files of the Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS). The report provides new evidence of links between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. The 1993 document, in Arabic, bears the logo of the Iraqi intelligence agency and is labeled "top secret" on each of its 20 pages. The report is a list of IIS agents who are described as "collaborators." On page 14, the report states that among the collaborators is "the Saudi Osama bin Laden." The document states that bin Laden is a "Saudi businessman and is in charge of the Saudi opposition in Afghanistan." "And he is in good relationship with our section in Syria," the document states, under the signature "Jabar." The document was obtained by the Iraqi National Congress and first disclosed on the CBS program "60 Minutes" by INC leader Ahmed Chalabi. A U.S. official said the document appears authentic.

For me, no link is necessary to justify the Iraq war. Instead of framing it as "preemptive", we would be much further along now if we had declared it to be, unapologetically, both punitive and retaliatory.

In order to defeat terror, our enemy must go through a psychological process which involves consequences, fear, and most importantly, HUMILIATION. The humiliation factor was provided nicely by the image of Saddam, post-spider-hole, but more is needed however, and I think soon will be provided in the death of Zawahiri and Osama, and the transfer of Iraq's security to Iraqis.

So you're claiming that even though the document "appears authentic" to U.S. officials, that Chalabi created it? Because if all he did was pass on the document, then his credibility is not an issue here.

Is the world safer now that Saddam is gone?

An unequivical YES. But not for the reason people think.
The World is safer not because Saddam is gone but because the U.S. military is there. It is a bold and brilliant geopolitical strategy. We have stayed Syria and Iran while Iran is breaking up from the inside. If Iraq does become democratic, and a big if, it will change the Mid East for some time to come. And if it is succesful, you bet the world is safer. Terrorism will be stayed and world oil production will be protected.
