FIELDALE, Va. (AP) - A bomb exploded Thursday inside a car parked near a former American Electric Power Co. building, authorities said.
The Henry County fire marshal found that one bomb had been detonated in a car and a second one that appeared to be live was on the vehicle's roof, the sheriff's office said in a statement.
The bomb exploded shortly before 5 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Two men were seen fleeing the scene in a green truck, the sheriff's office said. A spokesman for the sheriff's office said authorities had no suspects in the case and knew of no motive for the bombing.
Authorities blocked traffic from the area, and state police bomb technicians were called in to disable of the second bomb.
An AEP substation that serves Henry County is on the property.

Does anyone have any idea why only the AP is reporting this? Is it common to have bombs blowing up in Virginia? I don't get it.
To: Cinnamon Girl
I'm sure it was just white, male, right-wing extremists. Nothing to see here.

I'm serious. Where is this story? Did I just catch it before it completely DISAPPEARS? Last year, I remember KNX reporting in the middle of the night that the AMC in Century City was cleared out because a bag was found with what turned out to be a fake bomb. The next morning, I couldn't find the story anywhere.

Watch as this goes down the Memory Hole.

American Electric Power home office is in Ohio, where the start of the "Great Blackout" occurred. The Spain bombers claimed responsibility for that attack.

I dont know anything about this. Probably some kids or rednecks making a home-made "bomb" for sh*ts and giggles.

The local Cable Acess channel has a picture of the car, and I was watching it live this evening. It's a tiny little "hoopty" car.
Here is a link, it's the second story down the page called "Bomb Update"

Arlington is right across the Potomac from D.C., but Fieldale is a tiny town way to the southeast. No real ideas other than random violence, or perhaps a test of some kind to check vulnerability of soft targets.

Looks like a VW Fox. Not a bad choice to blow up.
