Not very (First) Lady-like (re: Hillary the potty mouth)

Not very (First) Lady-like

As New York's junior senator, Hillary Clinton has proved herself a paragon of poise - and one of the Democrats' brightest stars.

She rivals President Bush in her ability to raise cash and is frequently touted as a future President herself.

But the charismatic Clinton was not always so polished.

New York attorney Joseph Califano Jr. - a longtime Democrat powerbroker who worked for Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Jimmy Carter between stints as a corporate lawyer - remembers quite a different Hillary.

In his soon-to-be-published memoir, "Inside: A Public and Private Life," Califano recalls the first time he met the future First Lady, on July 24, 1970, during an era of protest and turmoil.

At a U.S. Senate hearing on the plight of migrant workers, Califano was representing Coca-Cola Chairman Paul Austin, whose corporate division, Minute Maid, was under fire in Florida.

"As [we] entered the Caucus Room on that steamy Washington morning, it was so jammed with spectators that many were standing and sitting on the floor," Califano writes. "Anti-establishment fervor ... was palpable in the hearing room.

"About halfway down the aisle, a young woman with dark hair and thick-rimmed glasses abruptly came in front of me and said, 'You sold out, you motherf-, you sold out!' I kept walking, pretending to ignore her."

The potty-mouthed protester was none other than Hillary Rodham.

Califano didn't take her outburst personally. Nearly three years later, he offered her a job at the bluechip Washington law firm Williams, Connolly & Califano - but she opted instead to join future hubby Bill Clinton in Arkansas.

My request for comment from Clinton was answered this way by her press secretary, Philippe Reines: "That is not consistent with the senator's recollection."

"We still haven't talked about the incident," Califano told me.

I have a feeling that's about to change.

"That is not consistent with the senator's recollection

This should be engraved on her tombstone

Anyone who wants to tell a Hillary or Bubba story today, much less write a book about it should be ashamed. Talk about your little too late's.

Unless it's about Hillary as a senator or from a grand jury panel, I don't want to hear it about Hillary. It's like telling me the world is no longer known to be flat. I got that a long, long time ago.

Go make a buck the honest way.

Phil, there are a lot of things which are a) not consistent with Senator Clinton's recollection and b) nonetheless God's honest truth.

I read in a book about Coca-Cola that she confronted Paul Austin (who may have been already suffering from Alzheimer's at that juncture) in the hall, pointing her finger at him and saying "we are going to nail your ass.....NAIL YOUR ASS!". Quite the lady, huh?

You got that right.

A lot of people ran cover for her on her way to power.

Why didn't this guy speak up before?

Oh, that's right. He's got a D behind his name. Anything goes.

I won't be buying his book.

Here I go again. Back in 1990 I was informed of the Clintons language while I was teaching at an Army School. The Arkansas NG Officers assigned to my class who had contact with the then Governor told me that every other word out of the Clintons' mouths started with F. And, ready for this? They even used the "N" word. Now that is something, can you imagine had they've been Rebulicans?

After Hillary speaks on the Senate floor they have to edit out from the record all the "you knows" she says constantly.

With that in mind let me correct this:

'You, you know, sold out, your know, you, you know, motherf-, you know, you sold out! You know!'

She couldn't take a job in D.C.

She flunked the D.C. bar.

Passed in Arkansas and remember how much she just loved bill clinton.

Seems to me I've read that she has issued comments on the sexual proclivities of our Jewish brethren also.
But then I suppose you have to have that kind of vocabulary if you want to communicate with John F'ing Kerry!

The potty-mouth problem appears to be common unto lib/dems. They all lack in class and self-control.

They all took an oath, apparently in the cradle, to break every rule they were told at home, school or church. Potty mouth was just the start. The true 60s radical boomers are never so happy as when they are breaking three, four, five or more commandments at the same time. Unless it's when they are simultaneously attacking three, four, five or more American liberties once protected by the Bill of Rights.
