RNC NOT WELCOME - September 2004, NY
http://www.rncnotwelcome.org/ ^ | 3-2004

Posted on 03/16/2004 11:24:17 PM PST by doug from upland

Here is what the domestic enemies are doing these days.

FOOLISH WEBSITE

The Republican National Committee has, for the first time in their 150 year history, selected New York for their Convention from August 29-September 4, 2004. In a shallow attempt at exploiting the lives lost at the World Trade Center, the RNC has pushed the Convention date to September. We have witnessed two unjust wars, at least one American life lost each day overseas, a depressed economy, the collapse of the dollar, $87 billion to boost war profiteering, the closing of our firehouses, a health-care crisis, millions of children being left behind, and now this. We say, Enough!

When the vote does not place in power those who represent the will of the people, democracy must be taken to the streets. This administration's choice of New York City, historically known for its diverse population, its welcoming of immigrants from far off lands, and its radical politics will prove to be their biggest mistake yet.

...democracy must be taken to the streets...

The election this year will be ugly. I expect that there will be riots with casualties.

I don't look forward to it.

The rncnotwelcome.org site is virtually hosted by mutualaid.org. Naturally, mutualaid.org has its own agenda which reads (in their own words) "mutualaid.org is a collective that provides technology services to the radical and progressive communities."

In short, they're just another socialist front organization like A.N.S.W.E.R.

Now I'm even more jazzed about the RNC gathering in New York. Anything that p!sses those jokers off has gotta be a good thing. : )

Don't worry, the FBI will be in their midst, well before the convention.

GOOD! I hope all Republicans attending the convention withhold their tips!

That'll teach them!

Sounds great to me!

Let's take the convention to San Diego!

There is no way New York is ever going to come down in the Republican column anyhow, so why and the heck are we spending our dollars there?

Let's deed New York to France.

STAY GOLD PRESENTS...

Elect a Madman You Get Madness
An Installation by Kyle Goen

February 16 - April 16th,
2004

EXTENDED DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND!

New York visual artist Kyle Goen creates an installation at the Stay Gold Gallery in Williamsburg using the "Elect a Madman You Get Madness" image he created in January 2001 in response to the 2000 election. The image was initially produced as a protest sticker. Over the past three years, he has developed this project by reproducing the image on t-shirts, posters, stretched canvasses, patches, and pins and mass distributing them for free. By saturating varied public spaces with this image he's explored how repetition influences politics in the U.S. The installation at Stay Gold gives Mr. Goen the unique opportunity to extend these diverse stagings to the gallery space and thus directly interrogate what role art institutions play in the political public sphere.

About Kyle Goen
Born in Bakersfield, California, Kyle Goen currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Majoring in painting, he received his BFA from Pratt Institute in 1992.

Starting his career in the windows of the celebrated Macy's department store in New York City, Mr. Goen went on to become Art Director of the New York music magazine Eye Deal. For the past six years he has made a name for himself by art directing and designing CD packaging under the alias Kyledidthis.

His work has been exhibited in several shows in New York and California. Mr. Goen's work figures in the collections of several prominent collectors, including the Giorgio Armani Private Collection in Milan, Italy.

The Campaign to Demilitarize the Police

Wednesday, Mar 17 @ 07:00 PM

377 East 10th Street betw. Avenues B and C, Manhattan, NY

The NYPD are preparing to turn the protests against the Republican National Convention at the end of August into a full-scale attack on our civil rights - especially the First Amendment.

The Campaign to Demilitarize the Police is a coalition of New Yorkers who are determined not to let this happen.
We're holding our next meeting on Wed., Mar. 17 at 7pm, at 377 East 10th Street betw. Avenues B and C in Manhattan. We're going to be mapping out a strategy that will carry our efforts through the RNC to demand and achieve the following changes in NYPD policy toward mass protests:
Full disclosure and civilian representation in NYPD planning for the RNC 2004.

No NYPD use of chemical weapons such as tear gas and CS gas - outlawed as weapons of war under the Geneva Convention.

An end to antagonistic NYPD use of interlocking metal barricades, preventing people from reaching demonstration sites by providing false information, unwarranted searches, seizures and destruction of personal property, aggressive mounted police attacks, and denial of freedom of movement - all of which serve to spread panic and anger among demonstrators.

An end to harmful and invasive surveillance of protesters - including monitoring of telephone and computer activity, facial recognition scanning, etc. - under the guise of the so-called "war on terrorism." An end to harassment and preemptive arrests.

We need your ideas, skills, and help to get us there! The NYPD spin machine is already at work, as Chief Ray Kelly promises 1,000 arrests a day during the convention; as the NYPD smears peaceful anti-RNC activists as violent thugs; and as the NYPD shakes down Congress for tens of millions of dollars in special appropriations for "security" during the convention.

PLEASE ATTEND ON WED. THE 17TH!

In a shallow attempt at exploiting the lives lost at the World Trade Center, the RNC has pushed the Convention date to September.

The shallow attempt here is the left-wing neo-communists attempting to stir up class warfare, using the 3000+ dead from 9/11 as mere propaganda tools.

Hope you can make it to the counter protest in Hollyweird, Doug...It should be interesting.

Is it too late to move the convention to another city? I guess they're under contract with NYC huh? Well, let the libs come out and demonstrate and show their butts. That can backfire on them.

Calls to Action

The following are various calls to action that have been put out by organizations and coailitions. The calls to action listed here are being made by their respective organizations, and not the Counter Convention website. To discuss these calls to actions and more go to our Organizing Strategies Message Board.

United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ)
Save The Date! August 29, 2004, The World Says No to the Bush Agenda
MASS WORLDWIDE PROTEST DURING THE 2004 REPUBLICAN CONVENTION IN NEW YORK CITY

Not in Our Name (NION)
The Republicans are coming to NYC trying to use the grief of 9-11 to advance an agenda of horrors.
More than a million in the streets saying "NO" to Bush and all he represents!

School of the Americas
Call for Nonviolent Direct Action at the Republican National Convention (RNC).

Still We Rise (Coming Soon)
Still We Rise is a coalition of poor peoples, AIDS, housing and human services organizations calling for a march to bring attention to the plight of people who are most vulnerable to the Bush Administrations policies.

New York Summer - 100 Days of Action
Throughout the spring, we will be reaching out to our neighbors, our coworkers, our classmates, and members of our congregations in open forums to discuss how these policies have affected them and how they are responding. In May, we will launch a calendar that fills the 100 days leading up to the convention with events that highlight our neighbors' efforts.

Chicago - New York
Chicagonewyork.net is a resource for groups in Chicago and surrounding areas who are organizing to go to the RNC protests this next fall.

I have posted lots of info for out of town visitors to protest the RNC at www.campshutdown.com

Because of the large amount of press etc. from all over flooding into NYC - if you think you will be camping near NYC or going to stay at dormitory style housing offered at hostels (cheaper than hotel) be sure to consider making reservastions this winter! Camping spots are booked far in advance near NYC!

For some with vans etc. www.campshutdown.com has info on ferry service to Manhattan as sometimes parking at a ferry terminus is cheaper than bringing a vehicle in. Cars get towed easily here and are expensive to retrive.

When you get arrested...

This is for information only!
Seek real law advice from an attorney.

It's great to be informed though. The NYPD are expert at false arrest and preventive detention so it doesn't hurt to KNOW IN ADVANCE what your rights are! It is a great idea if you are a camper to carry a note card with you with name & telephone number of anyone you'd like to be informed in case you are arrested as the NYPD loves keeping protestors detained overnight! If you have a small card you can pass it to a legal observer if one is present. Some wear day-glo green hats so they can be easily spotted. Also you can just give it to a party you trust. Be sure to put on the card any medications you may need should you get caught in a police sweep.

Check this site later. We will try to organize volunteer helpers for campers to be sure their camp site or vehicle is secure should a camper get jailed.

It is a good idea to write you lawyer's telephone number on your arm as police take your papers when you get processed.
The National Lawyer's Guild number is (212) 679-5100

What are the chances of camping in city parks?
I'll be getting some camping gear off ebay as soon as my folks send me some cash. Any reccomendations on free camping, I hate to pay the man for a place to stay...it is a "free" country after all.

As of today - the regulations about NY Parks being closed at night still stands. There are, at present, some efforts being made by organizers to allow overnight camping in a park but there has been no progress on that as yet.

I will post to this board any announcements about camping and city parks.

It should be noted that in the recent electrical black out aprox. 10,000 stranded commuters were allowed to sleep out in Bryant Park and other locations without being bothered by police. I should hope if we attract 1/2 the numbers we are expecting there will be a similar policy. But that's an opinion, not 'official' by any means.

I suspect the keynote speaker will be Rudy Giuliani, and the rest of New York will end up not taking too kindly to the scumbag contingent of provocateurs. We shall see.

Are there any Catholic Churches opening their halls or floors for sleeping? I am traveling from San Francisco and am a social justice teacher at a catholic high school. I would be interested in meeting up with other social justice/liberation theology inspired educators and workers when I am in NYC for the protests at the RNC convention.

And I need a place to crash...

Hi,

The housing working group is planning on reaching out to churches in the city, but we are sorely short on resources right this moment. If you have good connections or even half baked connections with churches or schools in the city, we could use help!

If anyone out there is connected to liberation theology inspired educators, I am sure namaste would love it if you put him in touch.

peace,

For the big Feb. 15th 2003 demo someone hooked up cooperation with some churches to open up as rest stops. One, I think, was Catholic church on west 43rd street or so - way over like 9th Ave. - maybe 9-10th Aves.

 Maybe someone at United for Peace & Justice has that list. It would be a good start. At the time the rest stops were up on their website. That rest stop saved my neck - I walked all the way downtown that day and was freezing.

Around NYC, I'd probably be unwilling to extend such an invitation. Too many of the freaks would take you up on it.
